Called the dealer today, the rifle I ordered a week ago was in. Good thing I went to Amazon yesterday and purchased a Vortex 4-12 Scope and an XS Full Length Rail and some quick release mounts. It was 16 extra to have it shipped overnight so I paid the money. Picked up the rifle at lunch time and told my co-workers I wouldn't be back. Went home and the puppy had taken a dump in his crate. Poor fellow. Cleaned him up and to the man cave I went.

Mounted the rail first. You have to remove the rear sight. The rail has a sight on it as well. Then mounted the scope. I did not use locktite on the scope since it might need adjustment later, it did. Ran a patch though the bore and it was clean.

Next off to the range. Grabbed some Indian Surplus 308. Indian Surplus you say! Yes, I got it cheap and didn't trust it so I pulled the bullets and dumped the powder. I loaded it with Surplus 846 and the original bullets. Good stuff for breaking in a rifle. Not something you would stake you life on.

Brought cleaning supplies and the normal stuff to the range. A half hour drive. When I got there someone had left a target at the 50 yard line. So I used it. Bore signed and first shot was on the paper. Adjusted to the right, adjusted again to the right, bulls eye. Next shot close to bulls eye. Ammo sucks but the rifle is shooting. Then for grins I shot at the 200 gong and dinged it.

I cleaned the bore every five shots. The rifle comes with a 10 rounder, but I used my spare 5 rounder.

The rifle shot well. Recoil with the factory break was pretty low. Just a little more than 223 or about as much as 7.62x39 out of the CZ. The rifles weighs about 6.5 pounds. Add a scope and a rail and its a little more. I need to adjust the scope a little closer to the shooter. I wouldn't consider it sighted in, just on the paper. I was also able to hit a target a 100 yards with no problem. The group size was about six inches. Overall I shot sixty five rounds through the rifle. Shoulder doesn't hurt at all. Somebody shot a bunch of American Eagle 223 and left the brass around so I came home with a bunch.

The bolt is smooth. The trigger feels heavy. The mags goes in and out without any issues. Its a keeper.

Nice buy!! Enjoy it! It's always nice to have a .308 as part of a collection.

Thanks. Its my third 308 rifle. The other two are more target related. Figured I would get one for hunting. I bought two of the Ruger GSR's. My son has the other one. I paid for his and mine. He did his paperwork and I did mine.

I just picked mine up last week. I was surprised at the lack of recoil as well. I plan on removing the brake soon to compare.

Congrats on the new rifle.

I had one before too and similarly noted the "low recoil". I thibnk it's due to the healthy recoil pad. I bought an M1A Scout Squad and also enjoyed the light recoil due to its thick recoil pad.

I'm mulling the purchase of a new scope for mine. It also has an XS rail. Do you happen to know the size of your objective bell and the height of your rings? Thanks in advance.

Nice looking rifle. :)
Looks like you got one with the newer composite stock.

Crowcifier666, did you scope yours? And congrats on yours.

I'm running a 2.75X Burris Scout scope over the barrel. I can ring the 10" gong at 200yds pretty much every time. I'm in the market for a higher power scope, to mount over the receiver, to really see what the rifle can do.

Enjoy!

Very nice set up you bought! Congrats and enjoy it. Thanks for the pictures too.

The rings that I purchased are medium in height. My scope is a 40 MM. There is about 1/8 inch clearance left between the front bell and the rail. Just enough for the cover and just a hair more.

.
I shoot my laminate-stock .308 GSR with no muzzle brake, but if I were to use one I'd like the one that comes with your new rifle. A "radial-port" brake.

Surprised you didn't want to try a lower-power, extended eye relief, forward-mounted scout scope on yours. It's what the forward pic rail is for, after all.

I too like shooting mine. It's pretty easy offhand and with the factory ghost ring to keep five rounds within a 6" circle at 100 yds using buck-a-round, off-the-shelf name brand ammo.

I have 12 rifles. I don't know which of my three favorites I like more: my GSR, my CZ Carbine in X 39 or my Browning 92 in .44 mag.

I don't like the scout forward mount scope position too much. Just me I guess. I love my 1892 Rossi in 45 Colt and my CZ Carbine as well. Have to add that to my AAC Blackout Model 7 Remington in 300 BLK.

I was unsure of the brake until I shot it for the first time. That is one high quality brake.

Thanks for the response.

I ordered a Leupold MK4 and rings. I think I did my math correctly...:uhoh:

I determined that I need Leupold's "Super High" rings.

I'll figure it out.

Thanks again :)

That's a lot of scope. Enjoy. Let us know how it works.
The scope is awesome! I got it "on paper" at 100 yards. I got to the range 5 minutes after sundown... Had about 12 minutes to get it sorted out.

I knew I should have waited till tomorrow, but I was anxious. The night sky is dark as heck tonight!

The rings I ordered are ridiculously high. :what: Got a lower set coming in.
