Palmetto State Armory Ammo Packaging is Total Garbage

I've made a few ammo purchases from PSA over the past few months. All from their Sabre line of 5.56. The ammo shows up in a normal cardboard box but it's just wrapped in plastic wrap with no type of filler. All the orders I've received have had smashed boxes. The ammo still looks serviceable but come on PSA, you look like a 3rd rate operation.

Well it isn't just Palmetto State Armory that isn't packaging ammo like they should. I just received 4 boxes of Hornady 6mm ARC ammo from a different place and one box was damaged due to not being properly packed.

I only ordered ammo once from PSA, it arrived wrapped in plastic but the box was also padded. The only way I'd consider ordering again is if it's a free shipping deal as I was charged $34 shipping for 200 rounds of 308!

The shipping charges change pretty quick I noticed.
Some shipments were $8.99 shipping for 200 rounds of 5.56, the most was $22 for the same amount.

I like SGammo for ammo if you're going to be spending more than $200, free shipping on orders over $200.
Which is pretty easy to do these days.

I never got any ammo from PSA, but all the other stuff came fine. Other places, lately have been OK or really badly packed. Seems to be happening lately on several fronts, not just gun stuff. I got a box from Chewy a couple of days ago, it had a bag of cat litter and 3 plastic containers of treats in it. The litter was leaking out of the box onto the carpet in the hallway of my apartment building, and two of the three containers were broken. This happened a couple of months ago, too. Litter all over the inside of the box, and a smashed container of treats. And then there is Amazon and the giant box with nothing in it but some small item bouncing around, or full of air bags to protect an item that would fit in a 6"X 4" box just fine. The last thing in a giant box was a litter box. It was HUGE, like footlocker sized and the litterbox took up about 1/3 of it. It was so big I just laughed when I saw it, since I knew what was inside it.

@hemiram I have had similar things happen with Chewy orders where heavy stuff broke lighter stuff. Take pictures and send them to Chewy and they will replace everything that is damaged. Chewy has excellent customer service.

When it comes to ammo, it should be better protected during shipping than what companies are currently doing. It isn't just PSA having issues with this.

Shipping companies must also own gravel plants. Some stuff I have received over the years look like the have ridden through rock crushers before they got dropped off.

Stay safe.
All of my packages are dusty as all get out. But there are a lot of gravel roads around me that USPS, FEDEX, and UPS all drive on to make deliveries. Once you get outside of any of the small towns here, everything is gravel except the primary and secondary roads maintained by the state.

I hear you. Our family ranch was just about 25 miles from town, which meant 18 on a two lane highway, two miles on a one lane road along Verde Creek and almost four miles on a caliche road to the ranch. That white dust was like talcum powder when it was dry and got into just about everything by the time we were home.

Stay safe.

I've only ordered ammo from them once. It came undamaged, but I don't remember how it was packed.

Has anyone told them they have an issue?

I got a package from Midsouth Shooters yesterday, it was well packed. They even put packing paper around the ball cap I ordered.:D

Maybe you should tell them.;)
I contacted them through their contact form which is also dumb because it doesn't give you an option for a general comment. When you select damaged defective product, the only option you get on the next drop down is Dagger handgun, AR, or AK.

I always had good packaging and service from them, a few build kits and uppers, lower parts etc.... they seem to concern themselves with providing good service and if they're breaking in a new guy in the shipping department or have poor QC on any front, they probably want to hear about it.

You are better off calling PSA versus using "contact us" through their website. Or if you are a member on ARFCOM, you can tag PSA and they will get back with you quickly.

I will plug SG Ammo, as they package their stuff impeccably, and everything always arrives intact with no issues -- although it may take you a bit of time to unwrap and extricate all your new ammo.

I never ordered ammo from PSA, my issues with them are about other things.

In the last decade I've received 50,000- 80,000 rounds of ammo from PSA. Zero bubble wrap. Not a single box was damaged.
Thats because I buy in case lot quantity. It came in the factory heavy cardboard box.

Less than a caselot means repackaging and filling the empty space.

If you aren't going to resell it or display it, just shoot it and no one will ever know the box was bent.

I have never purchased ammo from PSA, SG Ammo or Lucky Gunner. Those are the sites most frequently mentioned but I got turned onto the Target Sports site for ammo because case quantities ship free and if you buy a prime ammo membership any amount of ammo ships free and they will send you a ammo can full of goodies and assorted stuff based on a year's worth of purchase history and what they think you'll like. That's pretty cool. I never did do the prime membership but my uncle did about 4 months before C-19 and severe shortages and price increases screwed things up on that front, we were able to split some cases of Mk262 77gr OTM's and Speer GD's for ridiculously low sale prices. Like $20 for a 50rd box of Gold Dots and HST's and $8.99 for 20rd boxes of Black Hills Mk262. I doubt those p4ices are coming back....

During Covid their prices were such that I didn't even check prices except for maybe 2-3 times in the span of 2 years. But I always purchased case quantities from them and what I really liked was that if I placed an order Monday morning, Tuesday afternoon I would have a 1K rd case ea of Wolf .223 and 9mm sitting on the porch. I think right now is a good time to pick up a case or two because it's all gonna go up again pretty soon. $140/1K rd of 9mm always seemed like a great deal to me, now I'm very happy to see cases of brass case CCI 9mm for $240 shipped free.... jump on it while you can.

PSA does a consistently crappy job packaging ammo. The other things I have ordered from them have been well packaged. Their customer service sucks.
