For some reason my new 14.45 is darn near impossible to release the slide without using both hands.

Doesn't seem to matter if the magazine is in or out. About 2 times out of every 20 it behaves "normally".

I took a close look at the slide stop and it doesn't have any burrs or other issues.

Any ideas?

This is for a carry gun, so I really don't want to put an extended slide stop on it.

Does it release normally if you sling-shot the slide?

If so pop the slide stop out, pop the thumb safety out, and pull the spring assembly out of the plunger tube. Look at the small end, is it nice and round? Fairly smooth? If not make it that way. Look at the end of the slide stop where the spring hits it, is it fairly smooth? If not make it that way.

I like to cut a VERY small dimple in the slide stop to prevent accidental activation, it makes getting the slide stop to engage a little harder but doesn't affect release.
