question for "glock people" i have a 17 and 22c that when the "slide stop lever" is pushed down the slide slams into the barrel. it will do this with or without a magazine. i always assumed this was correct. i even incorrectly called it a slide release. i have a brand new 36 that requires both thumbs to push this lever down to get the slide to come forward. a local "gunsmith" informed me you should not be able to push this lever down and return the slide without pulling back on the slide slightly, that was why it was called a slide stop lever and not a slide release. i thought my 36 was just new and needed broken in before i could easily release my slide like the other two. i have noticed that the 22c sometimes does not remain open after the last shell but shuts on an empty chamber. i just attributed this to the cheap wolf ammo that i am using up never to buy again. HELP me out guys.

It is technically a slide stop, not a release, and the gunsmith is correct that you should slingshot the slide to release it rather then pushing it down.

However, with that being said, most of them will wear in and slick up to the point you can push them down and release the slide like a slide release.

It is not a defect or a problem, as long as the slide always locks open after the last round.

1. Your G17 and G22C do what they are suppose to do. It won't break. Really, it won't.

2. Your local 'smith is an idiot. I've never seen a Glock that required the operator to "push this lever down and return the slide without pulling back on the slide slightly, that was why it was called a slide stop lever and not a slide release". Total rubbish......

3. The slide stop/release on your gun is hard to push down because of the force placed on it by the slide return spring. After you shoot a few rounds through it it will loosen up.

4. Shoot it and enjoy.

LOL that's a new one... :D:D:D

thanks loads men and you have put my mind at ease. some "gunsmiths" are actually "gun mechanics", if you catch my drift, and our only smith died long ago. he lovingly and artisticly did his job till he died in his 90's. no replacement found or ever will be! glad to hear more comments.
