Took my pistol (8 shot single stack) to the range for break in per Para's recommendation. Used CCI 230 gr. FMJ. with the first 150 rounds loaded to magazine capacity ( 8 rounds ) and had about 15 FTF. This barrel has the integral feed ramp. The round would stick tip down and tail up. I then shot the last 100 rounds at 7 rounds per mag and still had the same problem. I pulled the slide all the way back (did not rely on slide lock) and same problem. Always happened on the first or second round, after that they would all feed. The barrel feed ramp and the frame feed ramp are even, I know Mr. Kuhnhausen recommends 1/32" step (on a regular frame feed ramp) but I don't know about a Para ramp. I inspected the case that would hang up but could find no notable damage but I didn't try to force the round either. I'm waiting on Para for an RMA but I thought I would ask the collective.
Thank you
Pat

Para Reply

CrackerJim,
According to Para it's the power extractor. They are sending me a new one by EGW. They say this solves 95% of the feed problems. I am guessing maybe a timing issue with the power extractor? Don't know, just my guess, but I would appreciate any input from the people who know 1911's.

Figure out how to check the extractor tension. BTW I put a PARA top end on a Springer frame. The fit was tight so I stripped the slide and worked it back and forth on the frame to break it 'in'. It has never missed a beat. I think the Poly coating on the slide needed to be 'worked over'. HTH
Best,
Rob

Sounds like a magzine issue to me as well. I have had several Paras over the years and though mine have worked nicely, I have heard they have magazine issues all the time.

Some Wilson Combat mags are probably the solution.

Thanks everyone. I will have to keep the magazine issue in mind after I replace the power extractor with the one they send me from EGW. If I still have problems I will try changing the magazine springs
