I have recently seen more than one Para with issues from sloppy manufacturing. The one I was directly involved with, they had squeezed the slide in a vise so tightly (probably to install the night sights) that they malformed the cavity and the plug was stuck and wouldn't come out. Back to the factory.
Not only are STIs probably the most consistently good 1911s you can buy, I would look for ways to support them for their stance in not selling guns to CA. If I had to replace my Kimber tomorrow, I would give STI a serious look.
