Stopped by the local gun shop on my way home today and 2 things caught my eye. One was a new Springfield Mil-Spec Stainless. The other was a hard to tell from new Para LTC Commander.

Don't know anything about either one of them. Fill me in........

Mil-Spec Stainless A+

i have a SA Mil-Spec stainless-

great gun, comes standard with a nice set of 3-dot sights, a mirror polished feedramp, and a pretty good trigger, not to mention loads of sex appeal

People are going to bash the Para. I do not have that model but I LOVE my Para. With that said, I'd still pick the Springfield

i'd love to have a para...i like what they do to the 1911...never shot one, but im sure they are fine pistols

Two Thumbs Way Up for Mil Spec!!
I have a SA Mil Spec in SS and I LOVE it!! Its a great gun and totally reliable! Not to mention it is a nice looking gun.

The fit and finish of a Para is waaaaaay better than a Springfield. I will be buying a Gun Rights soooooon. I dont like springfields they are all cost cuts made in Brazil ewwww

I have two Para's, and have had a Springfield. I also am always called upon to clean the Springfields of a friend.

One of my Para's is a 1997 vintage, and one is 2004-vintage. The Springers in question are a 1998, the other one newer than that, but I'm not sure of the year.

The newer Springer seems better than the older one, in terms of fit, finish, etc. However, from shooting and stripping them, I feel the Paras are consistently superior, if only by a bit in the case of the newer Springer.

Given the choice between two companies, I'd go Para.

I've rarely heard of complaints against Springfield.

Someone above referred to "Para bashing". I can honestly say I've rarely heard of complaints against Para. The one that I can actually remember, in detail, was about one of the super-short (3" bbl) guns. Maybe Para had some trouble getting the tiny 1911s to unction well.

Mine are a full-size P14-45, and a commander-length "Tac-Four". Love them both!

Buy the Springfield. It will be milled and drilled square and will likely work fine right out of the box. If not, their customer service department will make it right. I've never had to use their C.S., but those who have report outstanding satisfaction. The Barely Ordnance, on the other hand, will be a crapshoot, out of spec parts cobbled together in hopes that it will run. If not, hey you bought it, it's your problem now. I had a paperweight disguised as a handgun made by them, hammer followed right from the box, they blew me off. I fixed it myself and sold it. Never again and I'll advise anyone who asks against buying anything made by Para. At one time they were a top of the line manufacturer but they have fallen by the wayside in the last few years and several shops in my area have stopped selling them entirely because they had to eat shipping on so many guns going back to Para, most several times.

I will be buying a Gun Rights soooooon
Here you go Captain....

Nope. Decided to go with a Rami today. Just looking to add another 45 to the herd.

The springfield has plain jane sights on it. No dots. What sights will upgrade this gun?

Guess it is actually a GI 45 instead of the Mil-spec....

Yost Bonitz makes a rear sight called the "Retro" that will fit the factory dovetail. Millet makes medium tenon sights in any stripe, dot or insert with any color (or none) you can imagine. Sights you want with no milling.

Yep! Glad to hear about the decision on the RAMI. I liked my RAMI even though I traded it in on a P-01.

I looked hard at the compact, but with a semi compact already, I really wasn't gaining anything. This way, I will have all three sizes and all my mags will work. Now for another 45.........
