Don't have the Big Hawg - but I've had 3 other models - only thing I can tell you is that, in the non-stainless models, the finish will wear more quickly than for other manufacturers. My Covert Carry LDA has worn to bare metal along the edges. None of my other guns (Sigs, HKs, S&W and Colts) have done that. I carry in quality leather holsters.

my P14 is nothing but flawless. eats anything you feed it. accurate and reliable.

but the more and more time spent on the internet, the more and more you hear how para is the devil and they are horrible, blah blah blah. is it true? maybe. is it true in my experience? (owning 1, knowing 2 others who own them) no, all of ours have been flawless.

If free take it then trade for a new Colt agent or Defender. Both better made. Could hear mine rust on a quiet night. Was a single shot pistol after factory redone was, if lucky a 3 shot

when deciding on a gun, you should really listen to the folks who have actually owned them, not the people who say they heard this and that or know a friend who had one and this is what happened, blah blah blah....If Para was so bad, they would be bankrupt and out of business by now, don't ya think???

A genuine bad reputation in the consumer product industry will make any business go broke really fast. Para is still in business.:scrutiny:

I only own one Para, a P12-45. I bought it used at a gun show with the usual swearing that it shoots dead on and never hiccups - it shot six inches left at 10 yards and four inches high. It would not go three rounds without a jam.

I did some very minor work to it and now it shoots dead on and is 100 percent reliable. The work consisted of some cleaning, polishing and spring replacement.

As near as I've been able to ascertain the gun was made in 1994 and never detail stripped or had any springs replaced. It was kind of a no-brainer.

I've helped a couple folks with minor problems with Paras and all the fixes were possible to do in the field.

I read a lot of negative posts about certain guns, but for the most part I believe them to be unfounded. Most things people send guns back to the factory for can be fixed in minutes if you know how to diagnose the problem and can detail strip the gun.

It may take a few special tools, but not many. One of my most-used tools is a cheap pair of pliers with serrations ground off to bend mag feed lips. Remember, 90 percent of feed problems are mag problems. Almost all mag problems are spring, follower, feed lips or dirt related.

I would guess 90 percent of the people who have Para issues haven't cleaned their mags or followers in the last 200 rounds. Para mags should also be cleaned on the inside, not just wiped down on the outside. That is one of the key issues in keeping them feeding 100 percent.

The Paras I have shot all seemed very nice, but I personally don't care for that LDA trigger. It feels squishy to me. Of course, the Big Hawg doesn't have the LDA trigger, so my comment is essentially useless. Enjoy!
