I just purchased, 06/06/07, a new Para Ordanance LTC steel frame, cmdr size. All the stainless steel parts are now tarnishing,(turning black), hammer, grip safety, thumb safety, slide release, and mag release. I have several other 1911's that are stainless and none of them are even blemished. It has had exactly 427 rnds put through it, no rough weather exposure. I have tried to contact the company SEVERAL times by email, phone and letter with no response. Has anyone else had this problem? I figured if it was the oil in my sKin it would effect all of my stainless 1911's. Guess I was wrong. I love the way it runs and handles, I just don't like the idea of the cost to replace all the parts with quality stainless parts IF there are any to replace them. thanks and SEMPER FI,:banghead: Woodrow

I have a Para LTC.
I have found Para's service to be excellent.
Go over to the 1911 Forum board;get on the Para site and post the problem.
George is an executive and in the past has gone out of his way to help me (sorry but I cannot locate his last name but I believe it starts with a "W".)
I am confident Para will make things right for you.
Please let us know how you make out.
By the way, I have tried to not like the Para as I have several other 1911's but to my surprise and delight it is a keeper.

On many stainless Paras I've seen, the parts you mention are nickel plated carbon steel, not stainless. This is by no means a constant. On my TacFour, all these parts appear to exactly match the gun. Same with my P13.45. Some others I've seen, it's close, but over time, the nickel finish gradually yellows until it's very clear it's anything but stainless. My ParaCCW has a nickel plated bushing and mag release, but the gripsafety and thumb safety are both stainless. The mag releases on my high cap guns are both black, appears to be a polycoat carbon steel. Maybe plastic (I hope not).

That would be George Wedge, and he treated me very well too, even though I bought the pistol in question used.

PM me if you want details.
