Parker Hale Question

I have been offered a Parker Hale Safari in 30-06, I am not new to guns but never had any experience of European guns other than CZ.
I wish if some one could help me in determining the class of P-H in comparison to American rifles, which brand it can be compared to.

If anybody has/had used a Parker-Hale, I request some comments on its accuracy.

Parker Hale marketed several models. Many were FN made commercial Mauser actions that they finished and stocked... Generally speaking they are a VERY good rifle.

FN commercial actions are (IMHO) about the best there was. Functionally it would be on a par with the Browning Safari rifles of that era. (again, my opinion only) What are they asking for it?

I used to shoot a friend's Parker Hale 1200 in 7mm Rem Magnum, shot my first deer with it in fact. It is a nice shooting rifle and very accurate, I was able to consistently shoot 3" groups @ 200 yards from a bench (pretty good for me) with decent handloads.

The 1200 I was using was a Mauser action, it seemed to be very well finished and operated very smoothly.

I should have taken him up on his offer to sell it to me (at a very good price), but I was young and dumb back then. He still has it, and it is still a great rifle. :banghead:

@L1776, asking price has nothing to do with logic or reason, in my world a Remington 700 sells around $7000+, if I said this PH is for $1500, you should not be surprised.

but it is a used weapon not in an excellent condition, I just wanted to ask about its accuracy, if it gives around 2"+ @300 yards, it is ok for me.

I know that weapon and load has a lot to do with the accuracy but still there are some assumptions, I am asking for that.

All of the Parker Hale bolt rifles that I'm aware of are simply Interrms Mk-X rifles that were given a higher level of finish and re-branded. Interams as mde their rifles under many different names over the years. I know a few guys who owed and hunted with them back in the 1970's, and I've owned a couple of the Interarms rifles. Good solid guns, but not with the reputation that brings high prices.

Parker Hale sold a lot of different rifles over the years. They may well have sold FN actioned rifles and Zastava made Mark Xs at one time or another, but I have a Parker Hale that was made on a Spanish Santa Barbara Mauser action and was sold by, of all people, J.C. Penneys and is so marked.

It's difficult to tell what the OP has without more information, preferably some good pictures.

I purchased a Parker Hale bolt action rifle whilst I was stationed in Germany. It came from the German distributor Frankonia Jagd <still in business>

It was a VERY mediocre rifle

Chambered for 30-06

Was NOT a Mauser 98 Interarms clone

Was built around a Springfield 03 series bolt. I always assumed Parker Hale bought a truckload of Springfield bolts for pennies on the dollar and decided to produce a budget rifle utilising these ex-military bolts

I though the rifle was OK, but not worth keeping

The one under my consideration is a P-H 30-06 built on Mauser 98 action and a 22" Barrel with intact crown and few dings on the stock.

@d4xycrq, The model you got was a Parker-Hale "Midland" model rifle, this is the probably the rarest of the PH rifles and was built on a proprietary push feed action which used a modified Springfield bolt. The other mode;s where either built on a sporterised .303 or mauser action, both military and commercial mausers where used and came from germany (the military mausers) as well as Spain, FN, CZ or Zastava in Serbia.

These rifles have an excellent reputation as working rifles in Australia that represent good value for money second-hand and make excellent hunting rifles.

Parker Hales are as good as any US-made rifle. But take the gun down and check the trigger. At one time, Parker-Hale used an enclosed trigger with a pot metal case, and these can become brittle and crumble with time. If you find such a trigger, plan to replace it with a Timney or Bold trigger -- and subtract the cost from the asking price for the rifle,

Midland Gun Company was a name which Parker-Hale swallowed up in the 1950s and used to brand a line of utilitarian no-frills rifles and shotguns. They did indeed build one around surplus Springfield bolts, of which they reportedly had huge quantities.

A used Parker Hale in 25-06 was for sale up until recently in my local gun shop. I fondled and inspected it several times and am still kicking myself for not buying it. It was a model 1200 and was in fine shape. It had a nice Weaver or older Redfield scope on it (can't remember now which). THe scope was a little foggy, but not enough to detract from its history and general value.

The price for the combo was $550. I should've stole it but instead, one day, I went in and it was gone.

ON EDIT: No!!! It was not 550, but $450!! I remeber now because I considered trading one of my Savage 99's for it.

Down here there a bit more expensive but not much more... Already got a 1200 in .270 and I just put down a deposit on one in .243... The .243 with an old Tasco World Series was $450 but the stock needs a little TLC...
