What reasons would make you hold onto an old Parker that you never, and probably will never, shoot?

I have a couple of old Parkers that are NRA Very Good condition that haven't been fired in years. To be honest, they probably won't ever be shot, by me, again. The sentimental value on them is marginal and I really have no idea what their actual worth is (though I plan to get them appraised soon).

So what would make you hold onto a gun like this? I'm thinning out my gun cabinet to make room for some new additions and I've decided that, for the time being, I don't need to have more than one or two of the same type of gun.

i want one one day just to tell people its made by the same people that brought you monopoly as a joke.

in your position i would probally sell

There are people who collect shotguns and Parker is one of the collectible name brands. I had a guy I shot skeet with shoot a Parker double so they are still used sometimes but the Remington Model 32 seems to be the prize to skeet shooters.

While Parkers can be collectible, THAT would depend on model and variation. Since they have marginal to zero value to YOU, and presumably no one else in your family, then sell them. If there is a family member for whom they have sentimental value, I would give them the first right of refusal on buying them

I plan on asking my father and brother if either of them truly wants them. I would like to find out their value before making any decisions though. Is there a site that outlines what collectors are looking for in the way of model and/or variation?

Shootingsportsman.com has a forum where lots of Parker fans hang out. Posting there about yours will garner some input.

Be aware that you WILL be told your Parkers are not as good as THEIR Parkers by a few people, but there will be folks actually trying to help you also.

Pictures will help.

Had I an old Parker, I'd get a good smith to check it out. If safe, I'd find suitable ammo and shoot it periodically. Fine guns......

parker shotguns

I shoot everything I have including a Parker 12 gauge with damascus barrels and a couple of guns that I think are collectible. The value of a Parker or any fine American made double gun (L.C. Smith, Winchester, etc.) is highly variable. A fine old Parker Trojan workhorse 12 gauge in decent condition is probably worth no more than $600 but a rare Parker 28 gauge with 24 inch barrels and ejectors might fetch $30,000 to $50,000. The small bores are almost always more valuable than the 12 gauge. Go to the Parker Association and they can help you out. Good luck.

I will buy all I can find at that price. Of course, we could have a different definition of decent.
