I received word today that my friend and a man I considered a mentor, Pat Rogers has passed. There are a lot of people these days teaching tactical carbine classes. Pat set the standard for all of them.

I first met Pat online back in the late 1990s when we both moderated over at Tactical Forums. Later we moderated together over on Lightfighter. I took his class in 2003. It became an annual training event for me for a lot of years. It was through Pat that I met a lot of the movers and shakers in the tactical community. I was honored when Pat invited me to participate in the SWAT Magazine sponsored course for Jim Zumbo after the Guns and Ammo debacle back in 2007.

Pat never stopped learning and I learned a lot about teaching from him. He had a gift for teaching. I have taken classes in the Army, in law enforcement and classes I paid out of pocket for and I've probably seen instructors from one end of the spectrum to the other. Pat is at the top of my list of the best instructors.

Pat was always willing to help out a cop or a soldier. He comped my son to his class a couple months before he deployed to Iraq. Wouldn't accept payment.

I never got to train under Jeff Cooper, but I count training under Pat and Louis Awerbuck as the top training events I have attended.

If Valhalla exists Pat is there now drinking with Jeff Cooper and Louis Awerbuck and swapping stories.

I will miss you my friend.

We are diminished by the passing of this fine man. Combat Marine, NYC Police officer and one of the best instructors in the field.

Age 69 is way to young to leave us.

RIP,Sir.

Isaiah 6:8,

And I heard the voice of the Lord saying "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me."

For every Marine and good man lost.

Condolences,

Randy

I'm also sad to hear Pat Rogers died. He tirelessly taught many of us over the years, in class or online. Pull up some of his YouTube videos and you'll see what a knowledgeable man he was.

A retired friend of mine, who was once a GunSite instructor with both Louis and Pat (and knew Col Cooper as well) sent me a YouTube vid yesterday to commemorate Pat's passing.

It is of Pat, telling a story about Louis, and the video was made and posted in 2012, long before Louis passed on.

I have never met either man, but I laughed so hard I almost cried. Do a search on YouTube for "death on a sunny afternoon".

Language is predictably spicy, but it is a good story, and well told.

Enjoy.
And Godspeed, Mr. Rogers.

God bless you in your time of loss.

As a long time subscriber to G and A I would be very interested to hear about this debacle you mentioned. IF you don't think it's fitting to post about then a PM will be much appreciated.
