Does Pat have a clue? After sponsoring him for a 3 day carbine class, I can say he's among the best I've ever had the honor of training with. The learning objectives were numerous and we covered just about everything but the main points were about practical skill in fighting with a carbine. We shot from virtually every position that non-double jointed people can get in and cleared every malfunction known to mankind and perhaps one or two that no decent human being should ever have to face. Equipment selection, pistol transitions, shooting while moving in every direction and the list could go on. More than anything, Pat's "short" stories are priceless. There are few people with his wealth of experience or his ability to communicate and I can only encourage you to find a way to train with Pat. Summing up, you can pay more but you won't find better.

David, you scared me with the title of that post, especially with your name appearing on the High Road. Welcome, by the way.

Folks, David Blinder might be a new poster here (don't know how long he's lurked, though) but you'll find him to be quite savvy in regard to everything that gets discussed on THR. I recommend reading his site and maybe even wandering over to the 1911forum and reading up on some of his posts there (where he's maintained an active presence for a much longer time).

Pat was the rangemaster for my Gunsite 556 class in September. If that wasn't enough, Louis Awerbuck was the other instructor.

Mike, Pat has a very extensive resume including The Marine Corps including combat in Vietnam, and a career with NYPD. Among many other things he is a very long time Gunsite instructor and is a moderator on the U.S. Marine Force Reconnaissance forum at tacticalforums.com he also writes monthy for SWAT magazine and is a civilian contractor for the Marine Corps.

Well.........taking a trip to Gunsite ain't cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Strider Knives has me on their mailing list for when he comes out to Southern California again...can't wait

Uhh...do I need a .223? :banghead:

Harold, thank you for your welcome and you're correct that I lurk more than I post, even on 1911forum that I moderate. I guess I could have elaborated on Pat's background but in a nutshell, he was with 1st Recon in Vietnam, went to NYPD after that and retired as a sergeant. For the past 10 years or so, he's been rangemaster at Gunsite along with his training roles with several DoD agencies. In addition to all that, he is a prolific writer and probably the #1 reason to subscribe to SWAT magazine as his columns never fail to provide value. In other words, he has perhaps the most varied background of any instructor considering his military,LE and civilian experiences.

I've had the opportunity to learn and train with the best available but Pat is a rare gem. If you get the chance, find a way to check it out for yourself.

Welcome, David.

After training with Pat can you say, "Yes, Pat!" and "Bite me!":D

Yep, Pat's articles are popular in S.W.A.T., but let's not forget Louis Awerbuck, Jeff Gonzales, Clint Smith, Ken Campbell, (Uncle) Scotty Reitz will be featured in upcoming issues, Erick Gellhaus and, well, the list gets kind of extensive. Makes all of us at S.W.A.T. proud to be associated with real-deal guys like these.

Denny,

I may be one of the few people on earth who says "bite me" more than Pat and I may have upset his OODA by beating him to the punch a few times. I definately learned that those who don't cover their dust cover will immediately incur the wrath of a munchkin. I also learned how to offend every type of person on earth but I'm still trying to figure out how he does it without offending anyone:confused: . BTW, I didn't mean to imply that the rest of your contributing writers were lacking in any way but Pat's articles justify a subscription just on their own merit.

David-
No slight taken on this end. Pat has an article on the new, REAL MCSOCOM Kimber pistol in the current (December) issue. It's been done elsewhere, but S.W.A.T. is the only place you'll see REAL Marines using the ACTUAL pistol (insert gratuitous chest-thumping here). Like I said, makes a fella' proud;)

Denny

You know, Denny, you ought to have somebody do a profile on Pat for an upcoming issue. I think a lot of readers probably aren't familiar with a lot of the mighty munchkin's history. Of course, you could always have him do a travelogue of NYC. ;)

Stopped by Gunsite on my way to Nevada a few weeks back to chew the fat with Colonel Young. He told me Pat was teaching a 556 on the Hanneken Range, Louis was doing a 223 with some PJs on the Shot-Quad, and to go down and say "Hi" to both of them. With as straight of face as possible I asked if he was out of full-size rangemasters.:D

In all seriousness, they are two of my favorite people in the world, and two of the best instructors it's been my privilege to hone my meager skills with.
