This one was made (uberti) in 1991. They used real bone charcoal color case the and the fire blue they call charcoal. I hadn't shot it recently and my memory was fuzzy but I took it out today. It functions much more smoothly than the new one with the lever and was actually fairly pleasant to deal with. Loading of course, is slow and requires disassembly. The combination tool broke the first time I tried to seat a bullet with it so, I just use a ball starter.

It didn't bind up and a couple of problems it had when I first got it seems to have worked out. The sear no longer rides the hammer and in spite of a light mainspring, ignition is good. It used to be prone to spontaneous lock-up because of the internal hand/ratchet setup but this has gone away as has the tendency to fail to catch positively on half cock. I'm reall glad I dug this one out and shot it. Now I see how Ricky Schroder managed to kill that guy in Mitchner's "Texas."

Charcoal Color

Hi Mike - that's a good lookin' group! My Uberti '51 is that same finish by the way - it ages really nicely, gets a good 'patina'. I'd love to own a Paterson, but am still keen for a Dragoon - as you probably know, we have to justify each revo here, (and are practically limited to eight firearms before the Home Office require a 'monitored alarm' in the home  ) so have to choose carefully and keep the number down..

Regds, ATP

The other side of this one is considerably more aged. I left it unwrapped against the wall of my gun case and it grew germs. Keep thinking about that Dragoon. These patersons can be extra balky - see the string about the paterson with lever.
