I'm in the market for a 1911 and am looking at the Dan Wesson Patriot Marksman and Springfield Loaded Parkerized. Cost wise they are about the same. For those who own, or have shot both, how do they compare(fit, finish, reliability, etc...)and overall which is the better pistol?
Thanks.
Tim

Well, I've never owned a Dan Wesson 1911... yet. But I've owned probably 10 Springfields and have had 100% success rate with them but with any sub $900 1911, some will be better than others. But an example only one serial number away from another can vary so... it's the luck of the draw.

But both companies seem to be turning out good examples and both tend to have very decent customer service... Might want to check out the 1911forum.com and if need be, you can use that forum to... um... speed up customer service as representatives from both companies regularly visit.

Officially, in the $600 price range, I'd vote for the Springfield. But I'd probably try to stretch the budget up a tad and get a stainless but that's just personal preference.

I bought a Patriot Expert about a year ago and have been very happy. My Patriot came out of the box with great accuracy and a great trigger that breaks at just over 3 pounds. I also have never had a failure of any kind. Realize that there are difference in production guns so I would suggest that you check out any pistol before you buy it but even if there is a problem Dan Wesson's customer service is supposed to be very good. It it a very nice 1911 for the money.

I have one of each. A Springfield Loaded Champion and a Dan Wesson Patriot Expert.

Each gun was purchased last year during the Summer. Each gun cost approximately the same amount.

The clear winner is the Dan Wesson Patriot.

I am very satisfied with each but the Patriot is definitely the better of the two.

Regards

My Springfield loaded was okay out the box, but progressive got worse. I think I got a limp extractor. The nice people at Brownells dropped off an Ed Brown Hardcore extractor to me today, so we'll see how it goes this weekend.

On a side note, however, I got my stainless 1991A1 Colt Commander out of layaway earlier this week, and I'm extremely impressed by the fit and finish of it. It might not be as flashy as a Dan Wesson or the Springfield Loadeds, but it's screwed together very nicely from what I've seen thus far. I'm gonna wring it out while tinkering with the Springer tomorrow.

<edited for speeling>

I bought a blued Patriot Expert for $650 and have had no problems with it. It's a very good gun and seems to be worth more than what I paid. I haven't fired a Springfield but would love to as I think they are great guns. I don't think you'll be disappointed with either.

Dan Wesson

I bought a Patriot Marksman (used) about two months ago. For my first 1911 purchase it has been a wonderful toy. No problems after 1000 rounds so far.

Hi All,
Thank you for recommendations/opinions. I decided to go with the Dan Wesson Patriot Marksman. It should be arriving at FFL in a few days.
Take care,
Tim
