The rifle kinda looks like a Mas49/56, any how, looks like you made out good.
Cleaning up after using corrosive ammo will suck, do these take down easily?

Semi-auto 8mm, should be a effective mbr.

wow nice condition congrats.Personally Im one to stay away from corrosive specially with a rifle as nice of condition as yours.

I guess as long as you clean right it will be ok,I wasted a Garand barrel and learned the hard way though.

Seems to me Sarco has NOS barrels for 8mm FN49's for about $45. Probably has other parts for spares as well. They were dwindling down and were formerly priced up to $100. or so.

I regret not picking up one in 30-06 or 7mm years ago.

Rabbit.

Anyone have an Egyptian FN49 with ejection problems?

I just bought an 8mm Fn49 and love it. Reminds me of my old FAL I used to own before the girly men took over. Bright bore, straight shooter, parkerized and not that black enamel stuff.

Works great, but for one thing. When it ejects the shells, it dents the hell out of the casings whacking up against the receiver. Anyone else have this problem and how do you fix it. Ejector?

I would much rather have a FN49 than a Cali-FAL (and I like FALs). I would rather have a M1A/M14 clone than either, but the -49 gets cool points. It's a really good rifle.

Joshy: not a clue. Mine kind of sprays them in the 12-o'clock to 2-o'clock area, clearing the receiver wall without trouble. How many notches is the gas system from not ejecting? If it's launching them with vigor, maybe you have it overgassed a little bit.

Sweet rifle, passed on one years ago for $250, had NO idea what it was, neither did the shop owner. Someone did - it wasn't there the next day.
Ya know, milsurpitis should be a recognized ailment.:neener:

Overgassed

It may be overgassed. Tore the 49 down last night and scrubbed every nook and cranny, Tetra greased all rails etc. Shot it this morning with still denting on the casing, though alot less. The casings fly at about 2 o'clock, but at a distance of about 13 feet.

Tip; Use Lectra Clean contact spray cleaner from Home Depot to quickly clear away grime and cosmoline from gearworks. It jets out the crud and dry's in a minute with no residue. Fresh and clean to blue or whatever. Has never damaged any blueing. Great for flushing the gearworks on my revolvers and trigger mechs. in my auto's.

Thanks

Depends on the nubs. If you're using Yugo strippers, you need to grind down the outside two nubs, leaving the middle one intact.

Actually, if I can un-ass myself today, I'll go ahead and do a clip or two and report back.

FMN 8mm ammo

Cole Distributing and Samco Global are selling good non corrosive FNM ammo for about $6.00 a box. Brass cased, copper plated bullet, though it does take to a magnet. Clean stuff shoots good. Not the cheapest, but a good price for those who hate to shoot corrosive thru their Egyptians. About $.32 a shot with shipping to CA.
