PBS will pander to anyone, or any group that slams America in any way.
"That AK-74 outhits the M-16 by two to one on full automatic," said Jim Sullivan, referring to the Russian-made assault rifle, now in its third generation. "And the reason there were 100 million AK's made wasn't to equip the Russian army - it was to give [to] our Third World opponents. The United States can't win ground wars anymore."
Sullivan made th point that the rifle decides battles. This hadn't been true in hundreds of years. Artillery, air power, tanks and the machinegun are the principle deciders in war. Small arms account for less that 1% of casualties in modern mechanized war.
Artillery, cruise missiles, carpet bombing and all the other technologies of war means you can DENY the ground to the enemy.
It's only when you have one sweaty palmed, terrified 18 year old with a rifle standing there that means you have TAKEN the ground. Until you have taken the ground you have not won the battle.
