I just picked up my first Sharps ever. It originally had a longer barrel. The original owner bought a new carbine barrel and replaced the longer barrel. I was told it was a Pedersoli, maybe somebody could tell for sure from the proof marks? Its drilled and tapped for the tang sight too. I really like this rifle already even though I havent shot it yet.

Heres some pics of the rifle.

The firing pin block makes it look more like a Sile-IAB than a Pedersoli. Friends of mine have them that look similar in the action and buttstock.

Unfortunately your picture of the proof marks is not focused well enough to see them clearly. I can't resolve any of them against marks in my reference materials.

I'm up in North West MN, close to Thief River Falls. If the weathers decent I'm picking up some Ultra max "cowboy" loads for it Saturday.

Congratulations! You just entered a whole new world of fun. Get yourself a decent quality tang sight. You'll be amazed how accurate it is. Shooting from the bench mine is capable of sub-MOA shooting if the loose nut behind the stock doesn't interfere.

Are you going to shoot black powder in it? I highly recommend it. They shoot smokeless just fine too, but black is just "right" in these guns.

I want to get into shooting BP in it. For right now I'm gonna use smokeless. I do see some reloading gear in my future though..lol

Save your cases and buy some more powder from powderinc. You can reload BP cartridges without a press - just fill the case up with powder to a level that gives you the right bullet seating depth, add a wad, and press the bullet in with your thumb. As long as you only shoot the cases in one rifle you won't even need to resize them.

I actually do use a press for my 45-70 so I can compress the powder with a compression die, so I prime using that. If you had a hand primer of some sort it would work though. Using a press gives you more options and you can probably load more consistent ammo, but it's not necessary for a single shot with black powder.

I have a Dillion 550 just haven't bought dies for it yet, plus thinking of the brass powder measure the anti static one.

I just got the paper cartridge 3 bander.
Haven't fired it yet.
These are a bit complicated.
I thinkyours is a lot more practical.

Rocky Branch,THAT'S the one I wanted! Anyways when I took mine out,the thing would not go off.I took my nipple off ,and poured about a quarter of a .22's case full under the nipple, and screwd everything back down tight, recapped and shot.Afterwards,I found the shattered remains of tiny plastic beads around the flash hole.Dessicant, maybe? Some Italian 'non-fireing compliance device',maybe?Anyways,it works great now.Something to look out for, though.
