i just stumbled across this today. i picked up a q-tip that i was using to clean out a die with, and was going to throw it away. and found my son left MY pellet gun by the basement trash can, instead of where it belongs. anyway, the muzzle of the barrel was looking almost straight at me, and it just clicked. i checked, and sure enough, the q-tip fits snugly into the barrel. so, i gave it 2 pumps, stuck it out the door, and it shot. ridiculously straight even. so, i set a pop can about 20 feet away, and it hit just loud enough that i could hear the "ting". no penetration, not even a dent in the can. (i could also see it going to the can in the scope). so, now on days that are to nasty to go shoot, or anytime really i want to shoot something, i can at least do this. rain, shine, snow, broken leg, none of it matters. the q-tip can be used twice (once on each end), and by then, it is looking pretty shaggy. but off brand q-tips are cheap. and if your wife doesn't see you doing this, she will just think you picked up a new cleaning habit. and she will actually be happy about buying more q-tips. at least until she finds out the ugly truth. just remember to find ALL of them and get them taken care of. if she finds even one of them, she will know something, besides grooming, is going on.

I've heard you will get a better seal, better velocity and less barrel wear if you only shoot q-tips with ear wax already on them..... :neener: It's a new recycling program!

    Pump-ups are fine.

Don't do it with spring piston air-rifles though!!

You can knock the seals out without a pellet providing air cushion at the end of the piston stroke.

I feel like kind of a goof saying this but I have totally experimented with q tips and airguns! I used to make little darts by cutting off the tips of the qtip, then putting a pin in the non cotton side, load it cotton first. Its actually pretty accurate and they will definatly stick in wood targets.

    Don't feel bad....lol
Remember the spring-loaded toy pistols that shot plastic shafts with little rubber suction cups on the ends?
You'd lick the suction cups and the darts would stick to the wall.
We used to pull off the suction cups and stick the shafts in a pencil sharpener until they were pointy as hell....then chase each other around the back yard shooting each other in the butt with them....lol

I've been shooting Q-tips through my pellet guns for years, they are much cheaper than those felt pellets used for cleaning the bore. :)

Give frill picks a try, you know those things that hold your club sandwich together, they make dandy darts in an airgun.

As long as it's not a spring piston airgun, you can use the fat "safety" q-tips they sell.

Do not try shooting small pistol primers out of them.

I was delighted a couple of decades ago to find that office-style push pins make pretty good practice darts. Yes, they fly point first.

When I was about 11, us kids got the bright idea to stuff russian olives in our Daisys and Crossmans to shoot at each other. Challenging, because they don't fly enywhere near straight. Usually it just stung pretty good, but they stuck from time to time. Of course, we also used to stand a good distance apart and throw rocks at each other, try to dodge them. Yeah, we were real bright. lol.

Too bad airsoft wasn't around back then. We could have had the fun with fewer injuries. Thank god we all still have 2 eyes!

    Yep!
I don't know how I made it to adulthood sometimes either!

Rock fights were the BESTEST ever!
    lol...
We would form teams and run up and down the gravel alleys using those old metal trash can lids as shields and pummeling each other. The winning team was the one who drove the other team to the end of the block first.
We didn't have video games and all that stuff yet when I was a kid.
We had to "invent" our own fun.

Yup, my now passed on buddy was crazy and he used to shoot primers he stole from his dad out of his .22 cal Benjamin pellet rifle ! :what:

If you have a "Dollar Store" near you, then 500 Q-Tips are only a buck !

Makes me wonder about the first caveman to eat poison mushrooms. Must have been some critical analytical thinking that went on afterward by the rest of the tribe.

Now I wonder about fondue sticks. Anyone tried them? Pre-pointed, doncha know.

(Re primers. The anvils and sometimes the cups fly back at you. Uhh... I am told. By a friend. Who tried it. Not me.)

I'm not signing this one so nobody will know who posted it.
