As this thread grows to phenominal proportions, the favorites seem to be heavy calibers and the .22 WMR! I can't fault either and I too used to carry a Single Six withthe Magnum cylinder installed.
MyVaquero 357 would probablly fit the bill better than the Model 10, it's just that I shoot it pretty well and the DA factor has overwhelmed me.(Formerly only shot Single Actions)
Yes Now that I have read everything here, I'd need to change my choice to the Vaquero, heavilly loaded for a good trail gun.
The threats where I go are smaller "Park" bears though they are very dangerous as they don't fear people!!! Some are 2nd catch and release too ( the worst kind!). Big Cats usually run or hide unless with young. They have plenty of food there. The #3 threat is the most dangerous and I have watched "Alaska State Troopers" enough to see how many folks pack high cap 9's. At first I thought "WHAT?", then realised it was for the #3 threats.
Oh to be rich enough to own all the "right guns"!
