Perfect Gun?

The Marlin 336. I'd say that and the Ruger 10/22. Both are pretty much no complaint guns in my book. They do what they are supposed to and they do it with few issues.

I have never seen one, but I guess Patton thought the M1 Garand was he called it the greatest battle implement ever devised, but I have never seen the perfect gun........

It seems that almost every time I post, I mention my full size, steel framed,
45 EAA Witness.
But damn, when something works the same way, every time, time after time, you just develop an affection for it. It shoots straighter than I do, has never jammed,FTE,FTF, stovepiped or anything. It was stolen and I thought I had lost it for good. Got it back a year later and works just the same. The crook must have dropped it because it's got a ding on the slide, but no othr problems. I LOVE that gun!

Might as well go for the laugh factor... HiPoints... Everyone talks crap about them unless they actually have owned one.. Of course even then they still have low capacity and are ugly.

I haven't met anyone who hasn't liked my Beretta PX4 Storm yet either.

From my time here on THR, I've come to the conclusion that the following guns seem to be respected and highly approved by many gun enthusiasts and knowledgeable owners and shooters alike:

-CZ 75 series of pistols
-3rd gen Glock 9mm series of pistols
-Remington 870 series of shotguns
-Ruger .22lr series of pistols and rifles
-Browning .22lr series of pistols
-HK series of pistols

If anyone has any objections, please let it be known, I assure you, you will be one of few. :)

M1A, M14, MK14, what have you. I think it's usage history is an outstanding testimony to it's practicality and reliability.

Northark147 ~ I really dont like them! I bought one when they first came out a few yrs back, and for me the performance and price point where way off when I could buy another FNP-9 and be happy.

I'm gonna have to say the Browning Buckmark.

It puts lead precisely where I want it, it has a dreamy trigger, and I can shoot all day for under 20 bucks.

PERFECTION!

mgmorden - That was meant to be somewhat humourous... Laugh factor, Ugly, Low capacity..... I was talking crap as i was saying it... Neither of mine have ever missed a beat, but I'm not real sure if I wan't to rely on them not too when it counts either, so I don't.

As far as the PX4, the only complaint I can really muster about it so far is that Jet Li trick could actually work on one. No need to drop magazine or release the slide prematurely.. I have actually took the slide off with mine chambered before. Unless there is something drastically different between a snap cap and a real round that could prevent it. Of course I only have about 700 rounds through mine so far.. maybe something else will show up later on..

I am going to have to say the 870 Remington. You can hunt with it. Use it for home defense and throw it in the truck and not worry about having a ccw license or not. Mine is worry free. Here in Texas I can stick it in the back window of my truck if I want to.

I'm in the camp that there is no one perfect gun. If there was, the SEALS, SAS, Mossad and other special forces would only carry that one gun, and they don't carry just one. A gun is merely a tool. Some fit the role of multi-tool better than others but none do everything well.

With that said, as long as you stick with high quality, established names and take proper care of them I think there are many handguns and long arms that will do certain tasks flawlessly. They will all have trade-offs so select well. You just have to match the right tool to the right job.

Never heard anyone bad mouth a Korth revolver. Then again, I don't know anyone that owns one either.:D

My perfect autoloader is one that I don't give nearly enough attention to:

my SigP239 SAS Gen 2.

My perfect revolver is, without question:

my 4" S&W 686 Plus

I think I may have come up with a near perfect rifle.

The Remington 788.

I have owned two of them. One was in 308 Winchester and the other in 243 Winchester.

They were not perfect-perfect. They were perfect for what you paid and what they were intended to do. Shoot straight!

SIG P229 in .40 SW

.....I'll leave this posted...but there really isn't any perfect gun.
