I've played with the idea of getting a S&W 686 plus and then having S&W do some of their tweaking to it.

Two different 'packages' catch my eye

Master Revolver Action Job $125
-trigger stop
-Chamfer charge holes
-Polish rebound spring, hammer stud boss, and yoke barrel boss
-detail lockwork surfaces
-stone hammer and trigger contact areas

Performance Enhancement package $125
-Check and ajdust:Timing, barrel and cylinder gap, forcing cone, hammer and trigger studs, hammer nose or fireing pin, and hammer nose bushing
-weigh mainspring
-check for end shake
-clean lockwork

Could someone help me understand the differences between these plans? Some of the stuff I know what it is, some I don't. Mostly I ask 'why do this for one plan but not the other.

Example, Detail the lockwork, polish some of the internals = that sounds good, but so does a timing/cylinder gap/forcing cone check/adjustment.

I think the second listed package is more for a gun that has already been shot a lot, shows some wear and tare and needs to be brought back to "new" specks. The first is to get a new gun smoother and custom-like in fit and finsh.

The Master package is what the PC does to the new pistols that they build. The Enhancement package is for used guns that may need some tweaking to get them back to original specs.

interesting...

i remember when an "action tune" would include the work in both packages.

the enhancement package ensures that the action is set to the correct specs. the master action package is what most folks call a trigger job. without the enhancement package, you'll never get the full benifit of the master action job.

thanks. Maybe the performance center is figuring any off the line S&W product is giong to be in good enough condition regarding cylinder lockup and all the rest.
