I've got about 12 pounds of Data 2200 powder I'd like to get used up ... Can I use it in 6.5 Creedmore, or is it too fast burning?

I've loaded it for 223 and it works well but in the 6.5 it looks like 29 grains would be the absolute max I'd want to try and that will only fill the case about 3/5 ... just over half way up.

I've looked ar several load books and none that I have even list the 6.5 Creedmore in it them

A quick google search came up with "zilch" I did see that the data I found was for calibers based off of the .223 case and data listed for the 7.62x39 also.

I CAN NOT confirm this but several people were saying that it was similar to H322 but Data 2200 was a little faster burning. Side note is that Hodgdon didn't list any data at all for the 6.5CM using H322 so I'm guessing its just too fast of a powder.

IME the 6.5 CM likes medium-medium/slow powders 4831's and 4350's come to mind.

I suggest...when in doubt, don't.

Lean toward the safe side and save that powder for a cartridge its suited for.

Your health, safety, and quality of life are more important. ( not to mention the survival of your rifle)

Keep shooting fun.

Mark

I've come back to ask this...would powder choice change if the gus were bolt gun or AR? And...is the 6.5 creedmore the same cartridge for the two guns?

Stick with the manuals.

You need a slower powder. The Creedmoor gurus claim H4350 is the goto powder. I have tried H4350, IMR-4350. IMR-4831 and R-17. R-17 was tops in my gun.

I have only tried H4350 in my creedmoor so far. I had great results, but I hear R-17 is the go to to get some extra speed. I plan on trying it out this year.

I figure if I can't find a safe load for it I'm not going to try it ... I've got no desire to be a crash test dummy!

It's not that I'm cheap but I just want to use this powder up before it gets too old ... of which it may be now but it still doesn't smell bad.

Since the original post I've been doing some searching ... Varget is supposed to be a good powder and there is some load data available ... I have a pound or two, so I may start there.

I've also got several pounds of BLC2 and H335 ... BLC2 I've used for both 223 and 308 so I'm thinking there might be a possibility of a load there ... I've also got maybe 1/2 a pound of Vihtavuori N135 to do some research on.

Like CaptCurt, RL 17 works very well in my CM. I thought I was the only one that used that combo.

Tried some 129 gr Accubond LR but was not impressed. Had some old Barnes X 120gr hp and some 120gr Speer HotCors that shot great with the R-17. They dropped the 6.5 120gr HotCor. I am looking at a .395" three shot group with tears in my eyes.

I use reformed norma brass, 123gr amax, and varget
I've got a couple pounds of Varget and have seen some load tables from Sierra for the 123 AMax who's the pill I'm starting with ... What powder charge are you using, if you don't mid me asking, what's your twist and barrel length?

I'm using 37.5gr of varget... I'd advise to go down 1gr and workup a load to your rifle...
