Philadelphia's Department of Licenses is publishing gun information on the names of gun owners and their locations and reasons why they wanted the permit. There now has been a class action lawsuit filed to stop this.

The information also allegedly has the name of a pastor who carries money who has been robbed before. This is not good....

I remember some news organization published the names of people in NY who had carry permits, but I don't think it included their addresses.

"Philadelphia could be facing a class-action lawsuit on behalf of gun owners who say the city violated their privacy by publishing their personal information and launching an interactive web map that included clickable icons of revolvers over their homes."

Typical Philly. Their machine rolled over the rest of Pennsylvania on Tuesday.
They will stoop to the lowest level at every opportunity.

Socialism on display here.

You nailed it Johnny. You must have lived in PA at some point.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer pulled something similar once. Boy were they shocked when the editor's personal information ended up on the web.

The same thing should happen to Philly cops and city officials.

Sorry for you guys who live in such places. Here in Alabama, it is against the law to post such private and personal information.

it's illegal in PA
Philly is being sued right now, as a matter of fact the city won't comment on it cause they are in the starting stages of the suit.

Personally would be nice to see the state AG hammer them.

A civil suit will not achieve anything in protecting the innocent here.

A criminal case won't also be able to expunge all that information from everywhere. Even if a criminal case were sustained, it probably would not achieve anything.

Maybe, just maybe, if every single person even remotely with the publication of the information served a minimum of 25 years hard time, and the ring leaders get immediate capital punishment; THEN maybe, just maybe, it won't happen again.

This is fundementally no different than publishing the addressess of hidden Jews in late 30s and early 40s Europe.

I'm not familiar with Pennsylvania law, but this is probably not even be illegal. The details of permits granted by the state are probably part of the public record. I wonder if a legal case could be made that non-constitutional (i.e. state permitted) concealed carry is an infringement by virtue of forcing folks to make personal details public as part of the permitting process?

Edit: I guess I should have read the article before posting. The details of carry permits are evidently confidential in PA. Not so here in CA.
