Years ago I had a 1911 that was a “bring back, frankengun“ from WW2. Colt frame, Remington slide, etc. I shot that old gun as accurately as any gun I have fired.
Can't find one of those so I am thinking about a High Standard 1911. Keep reading how junky they are or that they are assembled in Texas and are the best, inexpensive 1911 out there.
Wondering if the Texas assembly comment is accurate and how durable these guns are?
Thanks

Don't know about a High standard but my STI was made in Texas and its an absolute gem .I also have some Ria's they are made in the Philippines not fancy but very functional

I have a new High Standard GI I'm converting to use for .45 Super as we speak.

I am thoroughly impressed thus far. As should I be.
They're made by Armscor to the same specs as the Rock Islands. Knowing that, I bought one.

Only negative I've read of merit was the trigger. Guess I'm lucky, mine is nice. I got it for $376 shipped.

As for being made in the Philippines I have one made by ATI don't know if they are made by another company and rebranded or not but I am very pleased with mine. I doubt that it would stand up to years of constant shooting but for the price it will do what I want/need.

It sounds like you are confusing two TX companies that offer Armscor manufactured 1911s.

High Standard and STI both offer 1911s that are manufactured for them by the Armscor factory. The STI Spartan is generally considered of higher quality than the High Standard...but neither is assembled in TX

I have been looking at some of the 1911s made in the Philippines. The H.S.& ATI are good looking guns. I bought a Metro Arms 1911A1 a couple of years ago & regret letting it go! It was a well made gun especially for the price! I would say grab one if you can. I doubt you will regret it!

My STI Spartan was actually made by Armscor in the Phillipines and has been a great gun. Only real problems I had with it was that the mag release catch didn't reliably catch on Wilson Combat mags (worked fine with the supplied mag). Ended up going with a replacement extended release from Wilson and it works with both.

Otherwise though - function and accuracy have been superb.

The P.I. are always concerned that either Japan or China will one day get froggy again...
consequently, they tend to make pretty solid guns :)

And ARMSCOR's customer service is pretty dang good. No worries there.

I have an ATI FX45 1911. It is made by Shooters Arms Manufacturing (S A M).

I've only put 100 rounds through it but so far I am very happy with it. It looks to be really well made, very well fitted, and I understand that it's carved from really good steel.

fat boy I have a RIA tac fs just to see whats special about 1911's. It fair from a pretty pistol but for function I would not trade even for one costing twice as much. Really. I worked the trigger at home to a smooth 3 1/2lbs. It fires even factory load fmj and hp and handload I have tried in it including wad cutter loads belonging to a old bullseye shooter. Even racks empty brass cleanly. I don't have eyes for 25 yards open sights any more. 12 yard groups for me are just a ragged hole 1 1/2". I tend to swap firearms at the range a lot to try some I'll never own. One was a older guy that was a bullseye shoot in his younger years tried it, after shooting it he liked it enough he said he would buy one play with. He was still able to shoot some 3" 25 yard groups with his loads loads. His shoots 2" groups . I thought that was great concedering it was my first 45 handloads loads and new pistol to this shooter with not the greatest target sights.

Ria has a gun smith that can upgrade a pistol or deal with any problem pistols and people say is he is very good. Builds some customs too .
