If I Could Own Three, and Three Only
I'd just pick a S&W 17 that I already have and S&W 60-4 that I already have and that is all.
That is not all I own now, but the others are expendable.

1911 - Familiarity, durability, lots of; mags, ammo and parts and easy to reload ammo.

Because I suppose if I can only have 3 ..... Something has happened to 2A and my ability to have them all, therefore platform ranks in importance more than who made it.
1911 - .45 Auto (Taurus-Colt-S&W-Springfield-Ruger etc.)
M9/92/99 - 9mm Auto (Taurus/Beretta)
Revolver - 6-8" .357 Magnum (Taurus 608/627 S&W 686 P (7 shot preferred)
That will cover it!

1. Colt Woodsman -- the ideal gun for bumming around the woods (mine was made in 1938.)
2. M1911 -- the ideal self-defense gun. Mine is a Kimber Custom Classic (MK I).
3. .45 Colt -- for when you want a really big gun for deer or similar game. I have a Colt New Service with 7/12" barrel and a Ruger Blackhawk with 5 1/2" barrel.

Bersa Thunder .380 for when I "can't" have a gun.
Have the first two and had the third, sold it, and am picking up another one soon. I'd already have it if my local gun store would quit screwing around and let me talk to a sales guy. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a bar where you have to flash a wad of cash at the guy just to get him to give you the time of day :banghead:
