I am going to get pillared by the requirement of 'fine'. I am content with what I have but will also include my opinion of fine in each class.
AK-47: converted saiga with kobra red dot. Fine would be a vepr.
12 gauge shotgun (pump, or semi-auto): converted saiga 12. plenty of 10 shell magazines and a 20 round drum. don't get any finer IMHO
.22 rifle (semi-auto, bolt-action, or lever-action): ruger 10/22. mine is too finicky on ammo but price/value best in class.
.22 semi-auto pistol: ruger mark iii 22/45. it rocks until it is time to field strip it. makes me sweat if I will get it back together. I hanker for a browning buckmark for fine.
.22 revolver: FIE. cheap cheap cheap. did I say cheap? Fine would be ruger single six.
.357 Mag revolver: two stainless 5.5 inch barrel ruger new vaqueros with pimping pearl handles. Lot more expensive but nothing finer especially tuned. If the scenario was dude you are being dropped off on an island never to return grab one handgun and ammo this would be a no brainer. It will always work and make a good club to boot.
9mm pistol: S&W 915 supremely practical 16 rounds of no frill firepower. Walther P1. Fine? S&W M&P full size.
.45ACP pistol: My ccw is a Taurus 945. My 1911 is an new Kahr/Auto Ordinance GI. Neither inspires envy but both are surprisingly quality and reliable. Fine? The finicky nature of the high end 1911s turns me off. Top of line CZ or Tanfoglio would please me.
I don't have the following but do have opinions. Surprised ?
AR-15: Stag, Bushmaster. Happy with my AK for SHTF or EOTWAWKI fevers though.
44 magnum revolver : S&W 29, 629 no question no alternatives. Ruger and Taurus makes good alternatives but in this class there is only one FINE.
.308 semi-auto rifle: FAL for the real world. AR-10 is fine.
========
My immediate goal is well rounded too but of course what does that mean? One of everything? I wish. I have a good collection of range pistols and revolvers. I have a good CCW pistol. I can do 3 gun although my AK and 915 are looked down on and my saiga 12 gauge is looked at with horror and envy. It just rocks there. Sucks for skeets. Well rounded for combat for the conventional would be an AR15 with ecotech optics and a 9 mm Glock. I do not like the grip angle so I would do a S&W M&P. Hunting my cowboy marlin 1894CB 357 works for georgia game but I need a big bore bolt. My focus is not 'fine' but price/performance so that would be a savage. A well rounded skeet/bird gun would be a 12 gauge over and under. I have a chinese SxS coach gun with hammers. The problem with rounded is there is no beginning or end. With 15 firearms I do feel I am making a decent oblong.
