Wanted a full size 9mm range gun that wouldn't break the bank.

Looked at and researched the XD-9, Beretta PX4, CZ-P01 (owned this before, but wasn't in stock at gun shop), and S&W M&P, and Hi Power.

I have tiny girl like hands so I have to go with guns that fit my hand. I wasn't expecting to actually buy at the local shop, Shoot Straight Apopka, FL. Had gotten prices at Buds and Whittakers and noted that if I could get them locally for $500 it would be a decent deal to walk away with one.

It was nice and slow when I went which was good.

Held each of the guns one at a time. None immediately said this was the one and I had to hold all of them several times.

There were used Hi Powers and I'll be darned if they aren't perfect for my silly hands! Talk about slim. But- $650+ and 13rds and sorta heavy. Decided it was a drop too much for now.

I started splitting hairs and eliminated the M&P because the grip sort of curved to a point under the trigger guard, or this is how it felt and I didn't like that.

M&P's were on sale for $499 though.

Now it was between the XD-9 and Beretta PX4. I held them at the same time, swapped them out one after the other a few times...

The PX4 was at $599 and the XD Tactical was $629- the service was $599 I think.

I decided I liked the PX4 a bit better in my hand, plus I am familiar with DA/SA. The PX4 seemed to balance a drop better in my hand as well.

Best part is that the manager was in a good mood. Asked what the best he could do on it if I bought on the spot...sales dude asked the Manager.

He went from $599 to $499 right away. Sweeet. Had the sales guy get me a new one from the back, looked it over, picked up a range bag, paid and left with my new 'toy'.

Having a CCW license is sweet. :)

Will shoot her tomorrow.

Here she is alone and with my carry gun...

Great choice

...

Congrats on a sweet deal indeed..

Timing is everything, and you'll understand it more, once you get the feel for her.. Get some snap caps for her, and practice with the DA mode, semi DA mode, and SA mode, to help break in the trigger to an even sweeter feel.

Make sure to get some white gun grease, and use it on a/the cleaned, *rotating barrel groove and the spring guide housing's bottom, that sits/clicks onto the barrel.

And, put a swipe on the rail guides (on the frame) as well, and she'll love it without worry of any long, 200 round, or more, range visits and any heat buildup that could dry out lighter oil for both areas mentioned.

Also, make note on the where the slide goes over barrel as it rotates, and put a fine coating of grease there in the slot of the inside of the slide, you'll see where I'm talking about.. Otherwise, look for the shiny spot, and do not worry about one there, or at the end of your barrel.. just put a little grease over any shiny areas, and she'll be good to go for a looooooong time @ 100%.

Enjoy,

LS

PS.. The Px4 is one of the EASIEST, and fastest, guns to disassemble, inspect, clean, and reassemble out there. If you're having any trouble, like pushing the slide back a hair, then pushing down (hard) on the 2 pins to release the slide off, then you're fighting the EASE of how to do it with NO effort, and no need to push the slide back at all, nor exert anything but a gentle pull down on those 2 release pins.. Let me know if you haven't figured out the trick, right way, to release the slide, and I'll give ya the recipe.

A piece of cake.. lol

*hint for removing barrel and putting it and the spring housing back in, and on:

Left-out, turn barrel counter clockwise to remove

Righty-tighty, turn barrel clockwise until it stops, hold, and gently put spring and spring-housing over it, push housing gently forward until you hear and feel the click, then slide onto frame. You're good to go.

THANKS, Lonestar49! That's alot of info. I copied and pasted that and saved it.

The grip is pretty darn similar to the P2000SK. In fact, just took a tape measure- both HK and PX4 are 14.5cm at the thicker, bottom part of the grip.

If you like the P2000 grip you'd like the PX4 grip and vice versa.

Give the PX4 a shot at being your carry gun -- I think you'll be surprised to find that it's pretty easy to conceal and comfortable to wear. I also think you'll find that the recoil management is much better than your HK. I think the only gun I have that comes close to my PX4 is the steel framed CZ SP01. I use the PX4 as my carry gun and it's not a problem at all.
