Just got a enfield #4 mark 2 from CAI. Its dirty but in very good shape. Bores in excellant shape. All matching. It say P.O.Z. on the receiver, any idea on that? It was make in pakastan, but the orginal tooling i understand. The bayonet came with a leather frog, which i had never got before. Also say #4 MK2 on it.

The markings on the bayo appear to be the Savage S, but the style is a mk1 type with frog. The mk2 rifle bayo's were generally the knife blade #9, but some spike types could have been made and marked mk2. That is a good find.

As far as the rifle, both Mr. Skinnerton and Mr. Stratton have concluded that no complete #4 rifles were made at Ishapore, or in Pakistan. All the mk2's were built by Fazakerly. It is probable that since your rifle has the Ishapore Screw, that the origional markings were also scrubbed, the rifle painted, remarked, and issued to the troops.

It is also possible that the rifle could be a #4mk1/2, which is an upgrade of the mk1 trigger group to the mk2 standard on a British built rifle (a #4mk1/3 would be either a Savage of Long Branch). This was a FTR item that was done after WWII in England, and the rifles sent out to third world types. If you did not really know the differences, then it would be easy to confuse a mk1/2 for a mk2. I say this because the rifle came from Century, and they don't always know what they are dealing with. It wouldn't be the first time they miss ID'ed a rifle.

Nice find though. It is good to see that the rifle appears to be in fairly good shape.

Did you order one of the No.4 Mk.1s and get this by luck of the draw? I wouldn't mind getting another No.4 since I may have foolishly sold mine years ago, but I'm afraid of Century's "good". My C&R record doesn't seem to be doing too well in the "I can see the shadows where rifling once was" department...

nope it was a mark 2 i ordered back in march and they just got out bond.

Maybe check to see if they still have any.

I was refering to the Blue book of guns that said mark 2 was also made in the early 70's at Wah Cantt, Pakistan on ex Fazakerley machinery.

ON the side of the reciver it says.
No.4.MK.2
38/R.O.F./serial number

I do underdatnd ROF stands for Fazakerley.

So not sure if a orginal sent to and modified in Pakastan.
