Well finally, after much debate, research, and annoyance from me asking the question over and over "Which Varmint Rifle" in this section, I picked up a new varmint/target gun; the .22-250 XR-100.

I went into Sportsman's Wharehouse today a little scared wondering if the rifle I wanted had been sold. The fear came true when I discovered all they had left was the .223 . Well, after standing there for about 5 minutes making sure they didn't just 'misplace' the one I wanted, I found my friend there behind the counter. As it turns out he had simply just set it in the back room to make sure no one bought it! What a relief! thank you dave.

I had been in the store about six or seven times before that with him being the person who waited on me. I told him I'd be by to pick it up within the week, so, like friends do, he hoarded it to himself so I could get it.

After the 15 minute background check/paper work, I finally got to take her home. Surprisingly, it weighed alot more in the box than I had thought.

Another bit of good news, that same day my brother came into the store with me to pick up a new M&P15 .223. It was the same price as a Sig 556 , which I would have chose myself, but he liked the MP15 better .

Along with the rifles, I picked up two boxes of 22-250 ammo; one of Remington jacketed hollow point (to break it in), and one of Hornady V-max 55gr.

That's not even the best part though. The store clerk invited me up to his house someday when we are free to shoot on his own private range which has up to 300 yards!

After what felt like forever, we were home and I got to inspect the rifle. Wow, what a thick barrel . The bolt is so smooth its not funny . The stock on the gun, while decent, is eventually going to be replaced by my dad who said he'll make me a custom, really nice, wood one .

What color are they supposed to be? Blue? And my Daddy told me to never trust a school with three mascots. I'm gonna miss Uga VI. RIP

They are supposed to be blued... like regular gun metal.

And I heard never to trust a school who changes their colors.

Red & Black are our colors. We just got new jerseys to celebrate the butt whoopin'. I'm still wondering why the stocks look purple....all the metal looks black, but the stocks are definitely purple.

What king of glass are you going to put on that rifle?

And speaking of glass, I think your brother may have his optic on backwards.

The rifle stock? It's actually black-gray laminated wood. I guess the light or camera picked it up wrong.

As for the glass, I am putting on a Millett Varmint 4-16x56mm scope, Weaver-style base, and some cheapo leupold scope rings.

His sight isn't backwards. That's exactly what I thought when I first saw it as well.

The eagle has been a part of AU since the 1860s, so I would think that would count for something. Just my .02. On a slight side note, I hope none of you are bringing campers or RVs to the home games in cowtown this year. Major construction and most of C-zone is gone!

Are there any tips as to how to keep my guns dry in the safe? I accidentally left one out (just a $100 .22 thought) and it got some rust on it. Any way to get the rust off?

I heard desiccant bags were good. How many would be needed to be placed in an average sized safe?

I use one of the coffe can sized dessicant things and it keeps my safe at a safe humidity level.

A simple flourescent bulb inside the safe will work (powered on of course). Or you can get a powered de-humidifier. OR a jar of dessicant tabs. OR Remington now offers a "re-chargeable" de-humidifier. You use it for 30 days until the little recharge bubble changes color, then plug it into a wall socket until it "recharges" then stick it back in the safe. That's probably the easiest way to go. I think they're only $20 or something along those lines from Cabela's.

Nice look'n gun for an Auburn fan. LOL. J/K Good choice in ammo too, can't go wrong with Hornady!

BTW: RollTide! LOL!!!

I keep a dehimidifier next to my safes. I did this before I had the safes, so my basement wasn't damp, but I don't have problems so far. And whenever I have desicant bags I put them in the safes for good measure.

Wow, maybe I should really remove my sig line seeing as I've gotten more comments about Auburn than my rifle :scrutiny:
