Nothing special, unless you consider 16 rds of .45ACP special :D

I will give a range report before the weekend is over, but here are my initial thoughts.
The gun seems to be a quality piece, but the polymer they use reminds me of Kel-Tec, and that I don't like. The DA trigger is as long and heavy as I have ever seen.......I'm going to guess somewhere in the 12lb range. The trigger in SA is petty good, but has some creep to it - light though.

I really bought the gun because over the past year I have gotten rid of all my "plastic" guns in favor of SA only semi's - like 1911s and a BHP.

It hit me last week that I had sold the 2 guns I used most for night stand pieces - G20 and M&P9, so I decided that the FNP would be ideal for that.

I need a hammer and a manual safety, except for some pocket guns I have held on to.
My revolvers do not apply to this thread........they all have a special place in my heart and aren't going anywhere.

I like the fact of the capacity, the ability to be carried in condition 1 and I got a hell of a deal on it. Also, it fits my hands much better than a G20/21 SF, which surprised me a little.

My range report will tell if I made the correct decision............

I think you will be very happy with FNP-45. I have the standard version in two tone, and though i don't have much firearms experience, it's my favorite among those that I have ever shot. I don't think Trijicon makes night sights for these yet, but ameriglo does.

I look forward to the range report.

I was on the fence about whether to get this or a 1911. I went with the 1911, (Para GI Expert) but still wonder sometimes.

Is that yellow thing a fake barrel for dry fire practice? Nice touch, as are the extra two mags. It seems everyone else is cheaping out on the mags, nowadays.

Being able to leave it Condition 1 negates the long DA trigger, at least in a nightstand gun.

I have looked at them at the local gunshows, and while I liked the design, two things kind of bothered me about the gun itself.

One is that the grip frame seemed overly wide; more so than that of a comparable Glock frame. Of course the fact that I have small hands does not help matters either. The second thing was that the checkering on the grip frame felt very sharp; almost too sharp. Had me thinking that an extended range session would become painful after awhile.

Have you noticed either of these two things while handling your FNP 45 USG?

Back from shooting the big .45..........

The gun is awesome. It's a soft shooter, a lot more accurate than I expected and the safety/decocker work well together. I only ran about 6 mags through it - Federal and WWB 230 gr ball and 1 mag of WWB 230 gr. JHP, this one gave me a FTFeed like I have never seen before (more on that in a minute).

86 rds went through it in the 6 mags. I tried 2 mags of the 15 rd mag, 3 with the same 14 rd mag and the last mag, which gave me the FTF (on the 4 shot) was loaded with the WWB JHP rds. This is a mag design problem in my estimation. The followers have a lot of movement........IMO they're junk. I hope FNH has new ones or somebody comes out with some decent aftermarket ones. The rd went as high as the barrel hood, like a stovepipe! The bottom half of the HP was hung up on the top of the barrel........never seen anything like it. I stopped and measured all of the WWB and WWB JHP - all below 1.275. I will call FNH and see if they have updated the mags, because if this gun came with good mags it would be better than a HK USP.

The grip feels rough, but I didn't notice it at all when shooting.......felt great. SA trigger was really good too. If FNH would use a little more steel in certain places and offer real magazines this would be the best "combat" 45 on the market.

Anyway, here is a target that saw a 15 rd mag, off-hand at 15 yards -

On the WWB-

FN advises not to use it in this gun due to variations in dimension (apparently made out of the US) and sometimes the nose hangs up on the inside front of the mag. I have the USG in tan/black slide and like it very much. Just getting to make some reloads for it. I like the 15+1 capacity. very soft shooting, very fast follow up (short reset) and the checkering is no problem (I thought it would hurt too but it doesn't at all.

Good luck with yours

I've put as many as 400 rounds through an FNP-45 in one session. The checkering isn't a problem for me, I find it to be slightly less aggressive than on the FNX. It's about the same feel as a DeWalt power tool handle.

Since I live so close to the FNH service center I dropped it off to be looked over. Tim from FNH told me that there was a run (very long run) off mags that are bad because the weld seam causes rds to hang-up - around the 4th or 5th rd from the top. He told me to take it in and have them swap out all the mags and polish the ramp.........I hope they check it for trigger pin walking as well, but we'll see.

I'm not buying the WWB problem.......I have several .45 cal guns and never a problem with WWB, plus I measured them all and they were all shorter than 1.275" in OAL............

If the gun won't feed everything (short of my reloads) I throw at it , it will be going bye-bye. No need for a 16 rd .45 ACP that isn't reliable, IMHO.

What is the date on your test fire casing? I believe the '09 guns have the mag problems (like mine does, most often with WWB...6/100 vs 1/100 Blazer/Federal) But if you talk to cust service they will replace your defective mags with new ones.
