The gun shows some wear on the slide, the bluing is worn on corners. No cosmetic damages though. The insides look new, if you guys have any tips for me - what to look for, I would appreciate it. What do I look for to tell if this gun was shot a lot?

One thing - I ordered an unissued Bulgie, but what I got is a Soviet made gun, made in 1976. It has Soviet markings on it, bifurcated triangle with circle. The factory serial numbers on frame and slide match. I am really glad that I got the Russian military one.

I will let you know how it shoots, when I get a chance.

Rival, I have two EG and one Bulgie Maks. The EGs are better finished but I don't think they are any better as carry pieces. All three are great. I like my Bulgie enough to carry it quite a bit. This is my Bulgie mak and EG Mak. Regards, Richard :D

Rival .. I think you did OK. You don't mention how much you paid but .. I considered I lucked out when I got mine ... it was ''Bulg'' re import but, with those Russian markings ... which does to a degree set it apart a bit from straight Bulg versions.

That one is probably worth that bit more .. tho surprised you had some bluing wear ... mine was seemingly pristine. It was IIRC about $219 after I beat the guy in the shop down a bit . I know I could have gotten a straight Bulg used for about $140 maybe, but ..... do not regret this one one bit.

Yours should tell you most you need to know by bore condition, appearance of breechface ('shadow' marks) ..... and overall evidence of handling and holster wear. Even so ... if shot ... it is most probably ready for plenty more excercise!

I think (no - I know!) you will enjoy this lil beauty .. a lot.

Rival,

If it has holster wear it means it was issued. It was probably fired very little.

Where did you order it from?

I had a Bulgarian unit, ordered it from SOG...I think it was $129...mine arrived in un-issued condition...not to say it had ever seen the light of day or not, but it looked brand new to me. A great value!

My Russian Commercial was not better...it had the "adjust. sights" but was not a better gun IMHO.

I sold all but my E. German (needed funds, not unhappy with the guns)...the E. German is more used, but was the only one with a decent trigger....probably because it had some use!

Maks are just about the best deal out there for a reliable gun WORTH the money! Why anyone would buy a Bersa (actually the .380 Thunder is pretty good), Jennings, Hi-Point, etc when Maks are so proven and affordable is beyond me...unless you just want an "extra" gun.

Richard,
I like the looks of that Bulgie with the tane grips! Did you do this yourself? What kind of sights are those?

I just got mine yesterday....

It was basically NIB. The one the had in the counter was definately more used. Since I bought mine "from the wharehouse" I was a bit concearned that mine would show some wear. After a couple of hours of cosmoline duty it came out clean and newish. Good luck with your gun. I am shooting mine this weekend.
