Thought I'd share some pics of this Hi Standard H-D Military that I picked up today. It's in mint condition and according to the serial number it was made in 1948. Considering the original finish is in such great shape even without the original grips I think I got a very good deal at $280 OTD.

The grips are nice but not original and so I just ordered some vintage grips for this gun and it came to about $30 with shipping. The metal grips that are on it now are not bad at all and really quite comfortable so I may not even replace them but at least I'll have the option of using the original style grips if I want. I searched for a while and couldn't find any information on these metal grips so I don't know if they were custom made or what.

Anyway here are some pics....

Nice grab - and yeah, those metal grips are quite unique - kinda cool -

chances are good it never was U.S. marked -

go shoot it - they are a blast!

better get some spare OEM mags for it now while some are still available. you'll be shooting this for a long time.

I'd check to see IF you still can get replacement parts for it, if not , Im not so sure I'd want to shoot it much! Thats a darn nice piece....

Very nice!

It's hard to imagine to-day, but Aluminum Stocks for Pistols were one of many High School Metalshop projects of times past.

If you don't know how to field strip that gun, please find out before trying to do so. They can be ruined by doing it wrong.

The HD was the first handgun I ever bought. Purchased it in 1949 (lightly used) for thirty bucks. Sold the gun to a buddy for what I paid for it when I was drafted in 52. I've always regretted selling it. Over the years I've owned several HS .22's but never ran across another HD at a good price. Keep it and enjoy it and pass it on to your son.

Well I took my new toy to the range today and had a blast!

The gun shoots great and I really like the feel of the metal grips while I was shooting it. I only put a 100 rounds through it but I had zero malfunctions. I definitely need to pick up more mags now!

Here's my best group so far with this gun, at about 7 yards.

That and under no circumstances shoot any high velocity ammo in it.
