Nevada is a very overlooked state - there are places where you can literally, build on a mountaintop and have a 360 view that goes on for miles.
Picking a place to live in the USA. A thought and question.

One problem with the Desert Southwest is... it's desert. Or very dry without natural lakebeds. No thanks. 
And the no small issue of an uncontrolled border has raised the risk of violent confrontation to at least as high as living near an innercity ghetto.
I think MICHIGAN offers a great place to live. It sits on 3/4 of the world's fresh water and is lightly populated. It's also got lots of good farmland and lots of wildlife. Just avoid the Southeastern section - where the majority of the 8 million [and dropping... ] population resides. The western parts are God's country.
