For YOUR arsenal/ collection
if you could pick one of these, which one and why? Your reasons.
1. SCAR H
2. AR10 such as the S&W MP10
3. Springfield M1a with USGI parts.
4. HK 91 or PTR91.
5. Kel-Tec RFB.

Springfield M1a or AR10. Not a fan of the way Kel tec builds things. SCAR and HK are way too rich for my blood. The springfield has historical significance and the AR10 can be built to suit my tastes so that is what I would do. They will both be serviceable in 30 years too.

Hk if I had money to blow, I already have a PTR91 though.

Reasons?

Simple/breaks down easy
Reliable, with very little maintenance required, lube is optional...
Good/acceptable accuracy on par with its contemporaries
Up to 400 yards, it comes with the best irons/sight picture ever put on a rifle, M1 sights are easier to adjust and probably better for match shooting, but I'll take the Hk sights any day

I reserve the right to remain silent. I had an AR10, FN-FAL, and a M1A. Found the AR10 (DPMS with heavy barrel) most accurate, followed by M1A, then the FN-FAL. Not really fair to the FAL since it was built from a parts kit while the others were newly made. Sold them to escape the Safe Act. Got me some new rifles like a Milspec and others nicely apportioned. I don't miss the FAL as much as the AR10 and M1A. They were favorites. Somehow the milspec (as accurate as it is) and the Ruger GSR (as handy as it is) are just not the same.

I have an M1a... a Socom16 to be exact. Practically, I'd like to get a another standard length M1a, but money being no object, I'd probably fetch an HK91, just for the pure saltiness of it. Living in the real world, however, I would probably have to go with an AR variant.

I have no real interest in the klunky SCAR and their unobtanium magazines, or a KelTec of any flavor.

If I'm spending someone else's money, a SCAR hands down.

Otherwise, it'd be a toss up between an AR10 and a M1a. I'm going through that debate currently and struggling which one I'd rather have (first).

The AR10 and the M1a would top my list. The AR10 because they shoot so well and are so optics friendly. The M1a just cause well, it's an M1a, one of my favorites. I like all of the "Garand" style rifles...

The Kel Tec RFB looks interesting but I don't have any experience with one to comment...
The SCAR is alright, I've played around with one a little but for the money I'm not buying one. It didn't "wow" me...
The bottom of the list is the HK 91 or PTR91. I don't care for the action, they are heavy, kick too much and are hard on brass IMO....

I'm surprised that the FN FAL / STG-58 isn't on your list. I have an STG-58 with the D.S. Arms scope mount. It's heavy too but still a lot of fun...

I have a Springfield M1A, and DPMS AR-10, so I'm sorta prejudiced. Or ...wait, no --yup. Well, I'm prejudiced in favor of those two. I like the M1A because it is a BATTLERIFLE. A RIFLE. Sorta a "grown-up" version of my M-1 Carbine, if you will.

Truth is the AR-10 is modern, it's another AR "Leggo" gun and MUCH easier to alter or customize than the M1A.

In the end, AR 10! AR-10! AR -10, AR -10! Yup.

Did I say, "AR-10?" :D

I had, years ago an HK 91. Nice enough, way heavy, ate brass and marked it up from the fluted chamber thing. Shot marginally well.I sold it in defference to a ' lite ' match M1A. Never looked back. Im not fond of the AR style platforms and do not use them so cant comment about that rifle. I've never seen a SCAR in person, so no opinion there either.
I'm sure at some level all of the choices listed would preform ok at some level, my choice, as listed was the M1A, regardless what some say, it was easy to scope, using the ARMS 18 mount setup and has shot very well for years.

Why the requirement that the M1A have USGI parts when none of the other rifle choices do? I have a new M1A with no USGI parts that shoots as good as my other 2 preban M1A.

But whatever the choice my choice would have to have iron sights. The AR style rifles I see everywhere with no iron sights just ain't right to me.

I have H&K 91, a DSA FAL SA58, and M1A. All good rifles, but I'd pick the M1A because of feel and easy of loading plus the M1A has taken all kinds of ammo without failure or need to adjust any gas system. Accuracy between the three has been similar with iron sights and run of the mill ammo, 2 plus inch groups of 5 shots on a good day and usually 3-4 inch groups are more average using iron sights.

I've enjoyed most of those on your list:
-Scar H
-M&P 10
-M1a (socom)
-KelTec RFB

My experience has been:
Scar H -liked it so well I had to have the 16....to sum it up, if I had to get rid of all the guns I have, these would be the absolute LAST 2 that would go.....awesome, awesome rifles
M&P 10-really great rifle...don't "need" it since I have the Scar, and an RFB, but I like it too much to let it go
RFB-bought for hog hunting and getting in and out of vehicle-like fact it's so compact, is easy to shoot, surprised the crap out of me that I've been able to shoot some 1" groups with it using 168 GMM and a 1x6 scope, easy to clean (was PITA to get the gas set right to run with suppressor, but it runs well now-ran fine without suppressor from start)
Socom-really cool rifle, but really heavy and good gawd, it's LOUD....sold it to a buddy whose been really happy with it

It would be a hard choice between an AR-10 variant or the SCAR.

Probably go with the AR-10 variant, specifically an LMT MWS or a Knight’s Armament SR-25. Lean towards the SR-25 since I’m pretty happy with my SR-15.
