I drive either my '23 Ford F150 Lightning or a '21 F150 Powerboost to the range most of the time so I have mobile AC 7.2kw in the bed and a shop vac... Was thinking of shop vac to pick up brass? Vacuum the range?

The FN 509cc Edge piles brass up at my feet. However most of the others, especially 10mm, gets ejected into the adjacent county. My back, my eyes, all showing signs of age - why not just suck it all up and sort/toss from the comfort of my couch?

Maybe I can sell it as a service to my range and others!

I bought a different brand, and it works well enough, but everyplace I shoot there is no cement! It loves to pick up gravel, and I've learned to run it parallel to the brass. Mine also came with a tool that slips on a bucket to open the wires and dump the brass.

I used to do that moons before the Clinton debacle of the last century. Got some nasty looks from some of the other shooters and a few cross words when I jumped the gun and started pulling up brass before the older guys were done jawing about what a pain it was to pick up brass… I also advise against doing it near fire ants. Back then I pulled up 2 butts for every case but I think smoking is less prevalent now so maybe you won’t get too many. Gum! Oh, the horror! Why people spit that krap out where people walk - and pick up brass - I will never know. Sorting brass and ending up with used gum on your hands is the pits.

I am sure your fellow shooters at the range would enjoy having you walking around with a shop vac and long cord they can trip over!
COLD RANGE, Desert Fox is gonna vacuum!:)

If you are alone, sure go for it!

I shoot at an "unimproved" range. Dirt, pebbles/rocks and trash on the ground so cases have to be picked up individually. For a long time I used a "case hook" (wire with a 1 1/2" 90 degree bend attached to a broom stick. Surfing the web and discovered "grabbers". Bought a couple and they work quite well retrieving individual cases of all sizes (I can even pick up small pistol primers from my shop floor).

You drive $100k worth of vehicles and are picking up $27.57 worth of brass? Is it becasue you like to reload or because you can't afford new brass because of the $$$ invested in vehicles? lol

I would go with one of the devices like CC posted, or maybe if you're a high roller... https://www.range-systems.com/product/ammo-upbrass-collector-36inch/

More like old guy habit... saving the planet - 1 piece of brass at a time... Have at least 80k 9mm brass on hand... Absolutely no reason to scrounge other than habit...

So you throw away all your brass and reload new everytime?

Reloaders, pick up brass to save money. I'll pick up my 10x fired brass, because I'm not paying $40, for someone else range picked up stuff.

If you paid $100K for a truck or SUV, who made what kind of choice?

Just a different opinion.

I wouldn't as exhaust will be blowing lead dust all over for everyone to breathe in - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...ealth-information.307170/page-10#post-9616073

I use similar nut collector that @CoalCrackerAl posted - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...tting-older-maybe-wiser.930117/#post-12889003

Collects pistol and .223 brass without blowing lead dust all over.

$30 at Lowes - https://www.lowes.com/pd/Corona-QuickCOLLECTOR-Nut-gatherer/1000384775

$35 at Home Depot - https://www.homedepot.com/p/Corona-...er-with-Carbon-Steel-Handle-LG13695/314032777

So you throw away all your brass and reload new everytime? No. It amused me that he pointed out the vehicels and I thought of what they cost vs. a batch of brass to reload.

If you paid $100K for a truck or SUV, who made what kind of choice? Certainley not me. I drive a 2007 econobox car with 149,xxx miles on it because I can't afford anything newer these days.

Just a different opinion. No difference, I pick up brass also. Settle down sparky.
