So I have a guy thats willing to build me a new gun rack for my wall....I want a rack to hold about 8 guns in the vertical position, with some storage underneath......does any body have any pics of their racks/cabinets to give me some ideas? Please feel free to post pics and ideas here for myself and others to enjoy!!

No pictures to post, sorry.

I did see a really neat idea in a gunshop. Its probably a very familiar idea to many here, but I'd never seen it before. It was gunracks, with a magnet in the wood behind where the barrel is placed. The magnet held each gun fairly firmly to its rack, until you pulled it off. Kept from accidently nocking them off. I will incorporate the idea on the gunrack I eventually build.

I'd be a little wary of that idea; exposing steel to strong magnets for extended durations of time will eventually magnetize the metal. Since lead and copper aren't magnetic this shouldn't have any obvious effect on accuracy, but it might still have unintended consequences. Then again, I could be totally off the mark here.

Here's one I built that is mounted in the laundry room. I designed this thing to eliminate pulling more than one gun out at once. You know, the sling of one rifle gets caught on the bolt handle of the rifle next to it, then you wind up pulling two out at once.
I have another like this one that holds 8, but don't have any pics of it.

Here is one I made in agriculture class in high school around 1994 or so. It ain't nothing special, the left side is mostly level, while the right has a deeper cut to it. The point was to hold the long guns level, instead of having them roll over upside down. It works better with bolt actions and such than it does on levers, but that is what I have on it. It also has a door that pulls downward for storage of ammo and such. I mostly posted the pic because I am proud of it's contents, three Marlin rifles just like I like them, with no frame safety, and uncheckered wood. The top one is a model 1893 in 32-40, labelled "For Blackpowder Only." The second from the top is a model 444S, in .444 Marlin, with XS ghost ring sights. The third is a model 39A, that dates to 1980, the year I was born, that I just picked up yesterday, and have fallen for faster than I have for a gun in a long time.
Sorry, that picture wasn't very good, and that is a Sierra bullet poster behind it.

Found this cabinet at a garage sale. It was beat up! I sanded it, stained it, polyurethaned, and replaced the hardware, glass and lights.
I think it turned out ok!

I dislike guns on display in a cabinet or rack due to the theft factor. I did see a safe however that was made of 1 inch ballistic glass, was suppose to be tougher than a steel safe...that would work for me.

JPwilly- I love that, must build!
Bob Barker- thats a nice refinish.

Thanks Dmitri. Very straight forward build. I'm going to build another cabinet but this time will have the rifles vertical so I can get a lot more of them into it.

That's why I put the old mil surps out on display. The safe has the better stuff tucked away.

That cabinet is in my man cave/game room. And when I say cave, its behind a keypad, solid steel door in a basement. They might get in the house, but no way they are getting in the man cave..unless they have a pnematic chisel.

Nothing fancy....something to hold a few guns for cleaning and maintenance in the reloading room.

I did too until I moved back to the country. Out here, guns are pretty much a way of life and I like to keep them handy.

I hope you get some good ideas...
I question whether anyone should post pictures of their gun cabinets with guns included online. I have been online posting for 8 years now and I can occasionally turn up a post I made in 2005. This stuff doesn't seem to be going away. Might not be advantageous to freely give to eternity an electric documentation of what firearms you have and where.

@35Whelen,

Nice rack, I have Mossberg 142A as well, i love that .22! Alas mine does not have the magazine

Something simple I made into the entertainment center in my hunting cabin.

Holy crap! That's got to be the nicest hunting cabin I've ever seen. Around here, hunting cabins consist of a roof, four walls, and a door. Not much else.
