But not the usual 75b, although I have one of those too, and it is excellent.
Finally got my NJ permits after ONLY a 13 week wait (was told it would be 6 to 8....) and picked up this nifty CZ VZ70 32ACP. I know that most don't consider this round to be worth much but since we can't carry in NJ it matters not to me. I buy em cause they look cool or because I want them. So, I guess I am a collector/shooter. I was fortunate to find this one, made in 1971, in just about new condition. I have a friend from Czech that is one of the partners in the Klinsky grip company, the number one grip supplier in Europe, and he got me the beautiful grips and 2 brand new OEM mags. The grips are also nicely shaped, unlike the stock plastic slabs. I shot it for the first time today, also the first time shooting 32acp. Using S&B 73 gr FMJ ammo, the accuracy was good considering it was 18 degrees and windy. Went out behind the shed and shot 16 rounds in a hurry. Flawless function, about 2/3 the recoil of .380. Trigger is a bit heavy in SA, about 7 lbs, and really heavy in DA, probably high teens. I may have my smith bring it down a bit but it is not bad for the intended purpose, basically plinking. Included a pic of my CZ 83 for size comparison. What do you think?

Looks great, especially with the new grips. Wolff Gun Springs doesn't appear to make any springs for the CZ70 but Apex Gun Parts and The-Dealer-Warehouse both have springs and and quite a number of spare parts for it.

The CZ70 is very similar to the earlier CZ50 (changes described here):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vz._50#Variants

I have a CZ50 and like it. The only caution I can share is that I found it reliable when fired single action, but I got occasional FTF (light primer strikes) in double-action mode.

Turns out that the hammer does not come all the way back when fired double action. I suppose my spring might have been worn and this was just enough to cause a problem.

It's a non issue for me because it's just a collectable and a range toy, but if you intend it for more serious use you'll want to keep an eye on that.

The CZ70's are well built guns. Actually, overbuilt, but nothing wrong with that. :)

I picked one up about 15 years ago for dirt cheap. About the same condition, time era as yours. My SA trigger is very nice. The DA trigger is extremely heavy, and its very difficult to pull it using one finger.

Accuracy shooting in SA is very good, and very pleasant. I think the out of proportion weight to the size of the gun adds to that too. They are quite heavy for what they are.

I tried a couple of the recommended DA trigger fixes with no luck. The only thing good to come of it, was I found a little clip attached to the mainspring, that keeps the mag from dropping free when you push the release. I left it out on reassembly, and no more hanging mags. They blow right out now.

I had a lot of feeding issues right off, and it turned out to be mag related. Mag springs to be specific. Wolff has replacements that fixed that right up.

I also bought a couple of spare mags from MarStar in Canada (only place that had any at the time), and while they claimed they were "new", they had the same issue with the springs as the mags that came with the gun.

I ebnded up putting a set of CZ50 grips on mine, as I prefer their profile, and they swap right out. Those wood grips you have on there do give it a nice, and somewhat sexy look too. :)

Thanks for comments.

Bannockburn, this gun was basically unfired or minimally fired and all the springs seek OK. Two of the mags were brandy new sealed from a Czech friend that imports stuff for CZs and Brnos and some others. The S&B and Fiocchi ammo I have for it works flawlessly and the Fiocchi was pretty cheap at $13.77 a box from Sportsman's Guide, free shipping included. I think if I do need to I can call Wolf Springs and they will come up with something. Thanks again,

9, I love the way that looks! Let me know if your friend might have more grips or magazines he might want to get rid of. :)

Sent you a PM with the contact info for the Klinsky grips. Marshcall also makes nice grips, have them on my Mauser HSc and they are gorgeous.
