I am (as I posted in the CZ thread) seriously considering a CZ 75B primarily for range and target shooting. I just like how it feels and looks. The three I'm considering are:

1) New Standard CZ-75B (about $430 otd) from my local gunshop
2) NIB 2001/2002 CZ-75B with Firepoint Sights (about $380 otd) - see the pictures below.
3) New CZ-75B Stainless ($550 otd)

Option #2 seems like a great deal. In fact, I think this mini red-dot sight (or the J Point, which replaced it) once listed for $150-250. Has anyone had any experience with it? The grips appear to be an older model, but seem to have a nice thumb rest. This might be a real steal, even if I did end up ditching the Fire-Point sight and replacing it with a nice adjustable sight.

Anyway, if you were going for your first CZ 75B, which of these would you choose?

Thanks.

Oh, the CZ 75B w/FirePoint sight comes with 10 round mags; the others come with 16 rounds. According to CZ, the model accepts 16 round mags, so I can get a Gar-Mec for it.

For ME ONLY, I would take #1.
NEW gun with warranty.
#2. Firepoint, what if it goes belly up? You would need to buy another or get factory sights. Why was it sold by origional owner? What mods if any were done to it? Only 50.00 cheaper than new, 10 round mags, others with 16 rounders.
#3. I wouldn't need SS for a range/target gun. And not for a 120.00 more. I can get a lot of ammo or take a CCW class for that. (I already have my permit, so that really is moot for me.)
You need to decide what you what, we can only speak for ourselves..
Good luck, be safe.

CraigJS - CZ put it on. It is FACTORY INSTALLED. Apparently, they did this in 2001/2002 or thereabouts as an option on one model, which they then dropped.

It is new and never been fired. Just "old stock" from a guy who's liquidating his pawn shop's gun stock and getting out of the business.

#1, for various reasons. First, the Firepoint is not well regarded in the firearms world. There is a reason CZ doesn't offer it anymore. The blued gun will work very well for you, but if you have to have the shiny bling, then go for the stainless. The CZ Polycoat is a very durable rust resistant finish, so don't worry too hard over that.
CZ doesn't have a lifetime warrentee, but they will stand behind thier product.
And welcome to the CZ world!

Agreed.

Each will be a reliable and accurate gun. You can’t go wrong.

For the record, I’d opt for option one, myself.

aJoker,

I noticed that the grips on your CZ are the same as the CZ with the Firepoint I was considering. What year is yours?

Bear,

It's about 2 months old. I installed the fiber optic adjustable LPA sights (got a good deal off ebay). The anatomic grips are from the CZ-USA website. I had to make a few small adjustments to them with a dremel so that they would fit on my single action but I prefer the feel for target shooting. I believe they cost $13. If you buy a standard CZ75 and prefer a thicker grip they will fit without adjustment.

I would go with #1 as well. the CZ is pleanfy accurate w/out the Firepoint, and you don't have to change the batteries on iron sites. And, as others have mentioned, there is a reason they don't sell them anymore. My CZ had those grips when I got it. It is a 75B Mil, made in 96 for a Turkish military contract that the Turks backed out on. I thought they were great at first. After a few trips to the range I found out that apparently my hand is shaped nothing like a Turkish Soldier's, so they didn't work too well for me. I replaced them with Hogue wrap arounds and they work great. The CZ factory rubber grips are really nice as well. If you end up getting #1 and it doesn't have the anatomic grips, but you still want to try them, PM me and they are all yours.

Also, and this might not be an issue for you, especially if you are just planning on using it for a range gun. CZs don't come with a drop free magazine brake. You can adjust the brake to make mags drop free, or you can order a drop free one from CZ really easily.

Good luck on your choice. No matter which one you choose youare going to get a great gun.

Thanks, Calhoun.

I'm leaning toward the standard CZ-75B in Black/Blue or the Stainless if I'm feeling particularly rich when I go in to buy it.

Unfortunately, I still have a week or so before my permits come through. Very annoying.

I prefer Stainless over the standard 75B, but the Firesight might be a cool thing for the range.

Bought One! $320 otd!

Well, I finally made a decision and purchased the CZ 75B with the Firepoint sight? Although it's something of a risk, I got it for $275.00 - a NIB CZ 75B with a sight that retails for more than $200 (or did anyway) for $275. After shipping and FFL transfer, I'm out the door at $320.00. I think that's pretty good. Even if the sights don't work out, I can get a nice sight installed for $50.

Anyway, thanks for your help on this. If I love this CZ, I can always buy more, right? :)

Also, if anyone wants this same deal, the guy I bought it for has one more on GunBroker.com for the same price. He's really easy to work with.
