has anyone experience pierced primers with tbeir glock before?

ive had 2 so far.....one with Tula Ammo, and one with Winchester white box.....no reloads.

gun is a bone stock G17 gen 4 with close to 1500 rounds through it......

ill pull the trigger, striker will fall, and the gun wont fire and the slide will lock shut...

took a mallet both times to get the slide to open....the first time it happened (with Tula) there was a hole in the primer......and the second time it happened (Winchester) it ripped the primer out.

ive looked over the firing pin, looks like normal protrusion with no burrs or sharp edges....

kind of baffling me

Let me get this straight. You have a pierced primer and the gun didn't fire?

I don't know what to say about that. But if I had to use a hammer to get my
gun open I would be looking very hard at the chamber for a buildup of crud
and at the rest of the gun for broken parts, locking block maybe.

Tulammo , Win ,Whie box and your blaming your Glock 17 with 1500 rounds through it ? If any one of my Glocks stopped running , first thing I would do is get some higher grade Ammo . I've seen partial boxes of Tulammo going bye bye for FTF and with my own problems from White box Win. Near squib velocity " phttt" loads a while back yeah I would definatly look at upgrading ammo first . But before you do that clean the 17 well to get those cheap ammo " cooties " off it for a fresh start on the good stuff .

I'd be checking the firing pin safety and the striker. It sounds like the firing pin is not retracting and is piercing the primer as the slide goes into battery. I'm surprised it doesn't go full auto. I'd not chamber another round before checking that out. You have an extremely dangerous gun at this point. It could be as simple as brass fragments in the firing pin channel binding the firing pin, or improper assembly of the FP safety. It is NOT an ammo fix at this point.

I stand corrected shooter 1 . Your idea makes more sense at this point and shooter safety dictates a thorough check and cleaning of the gun !

to be clear....im not blaming anything at this point...just trying to get to the bottom of it.

although i am kind of skeptical its the ammo..seeing as the gun failed to fire in a way i have never seen before.. with 2 separate lots of ammo on 2 separate days....

both guns were cleaned before training.....and the malfunctions happened within the first 100 rounds........but ran fine the rest of the day (~300 rounds later).......

firing pin safety and striker channel had a little bit of carbon/ brass in them.....but i wasnt pulling out chunks.......certainly nothing alarming.

i checked the gun while it was dirty and after i cleaned it, and all appears to be functioning as normal......

firing pin drops, hits a primer, slide cycles back, firing pin retracts as a slide returns and chambers another round......

Check the firing pin opening in the breach face making sure it is not damaged or over size. Check the fired cases for primer flow around the firing pin strike. Either, or both can be telling.

Please keep us up to date.
I am amazed at the number of failure modes that turn up on the gunboards. Something new every week if not every day.

Wish you were in the DFW area. I'd love to take a look at it just for the chance to solve such an interesting mystery.
