Iv had C&P revolves on and off through the years just for plinking fun I just never cared for The long bbls. I was at Cabelas the other day and they had the sheriff's model on sale for $160. So I thought what the heck. I have to say these things have come a LONG way from what I've had in the past. Fit and finish is fantastic and the action is like butter. If it shoots as good as it feels it will be a keeper. Should this be the case I'd like to change it to a steel frame. So my question is are the .44 frames for the 1860 and 1851 the same? Thanks.

Yes.
In my experience, Piettas are built to exchange parts.
The 44 frames will accept any 44 barrels & cylinders.
I have factory barrels from 3" to 12" and I can swap 'em out on any of my steel frames.
Same thing with grips.
All my 1860s wear Navy grips, because they fit my hands better.
Hope this helps.
