I went out today and shot my .36 cal remie. I can honestly say that it is one of the most accurate handguns I have ever fired. I was shooting a 3 inch group including a bullseye at 15 yards. Whether I used 22 grains of GOEX FFFG or triple 7 of the same amount; the accuracy was the same. Used to have a .44 Remie; but it was never this accurate.

David, I'm not surprised to read your story. I've got a couple of .44 1860's that surprised me by being able to produce groups that are just as good as my modern S&W's shooting good target loads. And that just means that both guns are shooting well enough that we are the limit on accuracy.

I asked the best pistol shot in our club to shoot my Lyman 1858 at 50 yards. He shot a 2 inch 6 shot group. It was 10 inches high and 4 inches right though.

27 grains of Pyrodex RS and a 200 grain Lee conical.

72coupe. Your 1858 Lyman was probably made by Uberti. They are better made than the Piettas, although for the money they are hard to beat.

I prefer Pietta to Uberti because of the price. I don't want to spend a lot of money on percussion revolvers because at the prices some of the Uberti's sell for, I could get a good quality cartridge gun. I do like Uberti's Cattleman revolver, that looks to be a great SAA clone, probably better made that a modern one made by Colt today.

So, this is good news cuz I have thought about getting a .36 Pietta Remington someday.

Nice! Scored a Pietta .36 recently and have yet to shoot it. Out of curiosity how does the .36 compare to the "power" of a modern caliber? Similar to a .32 or a .38 or anything?

badvibes, the 36 cal. 1858 Remington (Pietta) has bigger chambers than the 1851 colt clones from Pietta. With that said the 51 with a full load is about on par with a 380 acp round, but with a bigger starting hole.

As for the accuracy of my 1858 Remington in 36 cal is excellent and it has become my favorite pistol to shoot. I think I might even use it for hunting this year.:)

On many Pietta point is equal to Uberti. They are intrinsically the same quality made with the same numerical machines.
I don't know how is the market in the US but in Europe the Uberti sales fall a bit daily...

More and more vendors refuse to sell products Uberti (too expensive compared to quality).
Now it's Pietta (low cost), Pedersoli and Artax in recent years (they are significantly more expensive).

Uberti is slowly dying it remains the image and memory: Uberti was the best but unfortunately it is not the best henceforth.

Uberti is Beretta/Benelli now and arms should not be made by the administration board but by gunsmiths, perhaps is it the cause ... :(
