Hello every one I just had a question about my pietta 1873 SAA. I was looking at spare cylinders and I know someone who has a colt and a uberti cylinder that is fairly cheap and still has all the bluing left. Anyway, I was wondering if my pietta SAA would work well with the either the colt or the uberti. Posts are very appreciated and thank you.

The acid test would be to try them.

The final test is if you can slip a bore sized rod down the bore and have it slip easiy into the chamber throats on all 6 chambers. If you can find a rod or arrow shaft or some other tubing which is a close fit and then shim it out to a light drag fit down the bore with something like Scotch Magic Transparent tape you can make up a test rod that is close enough to try them out.

A good first test is to shine a light through the cylinder gap and see if each chamber throat at least lines up visually before you attempt to try it with this taped up test rod.

Check EVERY chamber for lock up to be low in slop and then visually and finally with the test rod for proper timing.

And needless to say the cylinder pin should be a slop free but easy drop in fit in the center hole.

Howdy

That's what Range Rods are for. To tell if the chambers line up properly with the bore.

But I would not get my hopes up too much. You might get lucky, but with a lot of guns the cylinders are fitted at the factory to a specific gun. There is more than seeing if the chambers line up with the bore. The lock work has to lock up properly. There can be dimensional differences in the size of the frames, and the cylinders may be specific to those dimensions. There are some fairly major differences between the design of the ratchet teeth on some generations of Colt cylinders and the ratchet teeth on some of the clones.

But you might get lucky.
