I have an old Piggyback 2 (thought I had a 3 all this time, Doh!) that I just assembled as new straight out of the box. Got a deal, guy never set it up.

My indexer fails quickly. I replaced one bushing and it failed shortly also.

This is the model with the pendulum powder drop activator and I did read something in here in regards to that being the problem for the indexer. However, that was an pretty old thread. I have ordered a case activated powder drop linkage kit and am awaiting it's arrival as it has been stated as the solution. Does this allow the indexer to work proplerly then?

I'll spend the money on the linkage. Beyond that, if it takes too many more of these bushings:cuss: , I'm dumping it for a dedicated progressive by summertime when the snowboard gets put away and the plinking steps up.

Is there an upgraded index system or did RCBS go all manual indexing? I can manually index, and have had to in order for proper function. I just assembled it this weekend and am not overly impressed, but when attentive, it works, kinda.

I too got a Piggyback 2 that is no telling how old but I took it out of the box for the first time a few months ago.
The indexing part is the leak link to the whole shooting match. I have only had one bushing fail and that was because I did not go completly thru the stroke but stopped while the rod twist was in the bushing instead of letting it go past it.
Mine has the case activated linkage so I am no help to you there.

My advise is put it on ebay asap and buy something that actually works. I've read more posts over the years where these things have been a unfixable problem than I can remember and think highly of RCBS products.

If you have the right twist rod installed, and you're still blowing bushings, I suggest you send it into RCBS for a rebuild. You never said exactly what it was doing wrong...

We have the same system, an older PB, upgraded to the II, and the new case activated powder drop system too. It works fine. We did send ours in once though, to have RCBS do the rebuild.

The pendulum powder throw system is binding up on the case a little and causing the shellplate to stop before it fully ratchets into position. As long as you run manual, it's fine. I actually think the design is adequate minus this core feature.

Previous thread homework stated it was the reason for case activated drop upgrade and some said it cured the problem entirely. I have a case activated linkage on order. If it still gives me troubles after install, I'll send it in for a rebuild or see if I can get a clutch kit and do it myself. It's the wimpy bushing, it needs to be made of a stiffer plastic or have a steel piece over it for more support and forced bearing surface pressure. :scrutiny: :scrutiny: Actually, it just needs to larger diameter indexing assembly and it would work fine.

I don't have access to the machines nor the will to fix it if RCBS doesn't cure it. Maybe their starwheel could be accomodated instead, that would be acceptable and ease it quite a bit. Manual would be fine before purchasing a replacement.

Sorry, .
