Guntests tested a S&W 629 Classic @ 50yds. If I recall, the best 5 shot group was well under 2".
I have shot my 629 Classic (Performance Center accuratized) at 50 yds. freehand and had 2" groups (Yes it was a good day).

When I get bored I can ring the 10 inch gong on our pistol range off sand bags 90% of the shots with any of my guns especialy the springfield XDM.

i have shot 4.5" groups at 50yds with my xd service model and wwb factory ammo. the biggest thing is that you have to know your hold over which wasn't too too bad with the .40 xd.

I can't quite keep all the shots on my 52 yard 24 x 24 inch target. The last time I shot the 38 S&W J Frame (standing) I missed shots 41 and 42 (out of 50). That's really aggravating.:D

Considering my shaking hand later I was surprised that all shots hit steel when I was trying out the laser at that distance.

I've been shooting in competition for quite a while. Back when I was shooting National Match, we *routinely* had to use scoring plugs at 50.

When I moved to PPC, the plugs were still commonly used.

It was only when IPSC came along that group size seemed to have been lost as a measure of marksmanship.

50 yds.

I recently purchased a Ruger Ranch Rifle in 6.8 cal. and a friend purchased the same rifle in .223 cal. These were the "new" supposedly more accurate ones. I assure you that any one of my 1911's from a rest would out shoot both rifles at 100 yards. They were laughable. Hard to believe that anyone would sell such inaccurate rifle. That's my opinion and I REALLY LIKE RUGER RIFLES.

We have two service pistol disciplines.
Old service pistol model P49 aka SIG P210 or Luger Pistol = 50m
New service pistol model P75 aka SIP P220 = 25m

50 m pistol shooting is quite often here.

Students in Front Sight's Handgun Combat Master Prep hit steel on the rifle range at 300m pretty consistently. That's 300m, not 30m. Not with every shot, but with quite a few. Most of them are using Glock 35s these days.
To put it into perspective, to become a Handgun Combat Master you must double-tap a target from the holster in under 6 seconds at 50m, and not miss. 50m is required distance, 300m is just for fun.
