Heh, heh, so an EMP is too expensive for her, so you'll get her a Taurus? Geez...
This is all mute. Give her a price range and let her choose a gun.
A Taurus 709 is less than half the price of an EMP...

CZ-75................one size fits all!!!
Never met a person with big hand or little hands that didnt fall in love with the CZ-75.

I checked out the 709 yesterday and the trigger was awful. I could deal with it as a carry gun, but it is not what the old lady likes. There's tons of options for DAO--my mom, sister and I all have Kahrs and love them--but the single-action options are a lot more limited. I'm looking at USP compacts now...

Point is, I would not get any of my family a Taurus. There are soooo many better guns.

I'm not sure if you were implying that it was DAO, but the Taurus 709 is actually DA/SA.

While it doesn't offer locked and cocked I would highly recommend the Smith 3913, or nearly identical Ladysmith.

If striker fired was a possibility I would add the M&P 9 Compact as well as the Walther or Smith P99C or SW99C. I have been teaching my 19 year old daughter to shoot and she is quite small, maybe five foot one. She did very well with the M&P 9C and I will probably switch her to the 3913 to understand and try that kind of trigger. I strongly suspect that she will prefer the 3913.

I own 30+ handguns, of which she has shot at least half.

Certainly by now she's earned the right to pick the one she likes best . . .

Seriously, sounds like she has a good idea what she wants. So, find a S&W M&P 9mm with a manual safety, or the Ruger SR9. Manual safeties, striker fired, single actions, adjustable grips.

Problem solved. Or not. :what:

Out of the Box Thinking/Ideas

Stiletto, good job on getting her data points! Based on your additional input, you still have some work to do to get it right for her...

She is only half way through “shopping” your collection; encourage her to try everything and select one, just one. That is your starting point.

“The shoes” experience is a complex female shopping process, she will ask you what you think and your answer will lay the foundation for several more purchases ($1000 may be cheap over time; giving her one of your guns is most cost effective). Any input from you relieves her of all the responsibility for her selection.

Based on your criteria and her preferences, consider one of the most unusual guns I ever shot: the Triple Action Daewoo (South Korean) DP-51c. It is a 9mm, 13 rounds, compact, inexpensive straight shooter with light felt recoil. She will like the SA pull, won’t use the DA, and will, I think, like the hammer down Triple action feature. Sounds weird; works great! Does not look European; has a good feel. And I never understood who might want one...until now.

Let her handle a
RAMI BD (decocker) of the CZ RAMI family.

Burn, Baby, Burn!!

I found myself in a similar dileam awhile back, girl didn't like polymer, loved the 1911 but found it to be to big and the 45 to be to much, she ended up with an emp, she loves it so much she won't part with it long enough for me to even shoot it.

if price is to high on that one I will say my girl likes the p7 as well, it might be worth a look for her
