So a friend was telling me about a kit that was in limited production that he says was called a 'Sidewinder kit' to allow you to attach a pistol grip only to a semi-auto shotgun (like a Remington 1100) and it would still function.

I did some searches because I had never heard of it but only found the drum mag conversion kit for pump shotguns that is called the Sidewinder.

Anyone know about this or a similar method?

Thanks in advance.

I own and have shot many pistol grip shotguns. 12 gauge pistol grip isn't that big of a deal. My 10 gauge from the hip talks to ya a bit more. :)

Before you buy a pistol grip for a shotgun, any pistol grip, you need to shoot one at least once. Once is probably all you will want. They are not fun.
I was just shooting one today. The amount of fun depends heavily on the load. I shot maybe 60-70 birdshot (fun), 30 or so 00 and #4 buckshot (OK, but wears on you), and 5 or 6 magnum slugs (not fun). Hard for me to keep a good grip on the forend when those slugs light up.

I'm glad you guys do or do not enjoy shooting pistol grip shotguns, but I'm asking a specific question. Maybe a new thread about who likes shooting them and who doesn't would be fun for you. :)

There used to be an aftermarket side folding stock with pistol grip for the Mossberg 9200 semi-auto. The 9200 has the recoil spring around the magazine tube instead of in the buttstock.

RC, that's the reason I'm asking is because of the design of semi-autos like the 1100.

Rule303 - I'll check that out.

The reason I ask is that I've never heard of it and if such a device was made I'd like to know about it. Personally I just stick with my Saiga 12 :)

The Sidewinder kit, by Knoxx (discontinued now for many years) was a magazine adapter for pump guns to allow the use of a drum magazine.

These days, for added capacity to your pump gun, a Black Aces build would do the same thing.

Never heard of a sidewinder kit to convert a semi auto to a PGO.

Ya USAF, that's all I could find too. I may chaulk this up to a miscommunication.

Yes, it was made by Sage International. Called the Sidewinder. I believe it was only available for the Rem. 1100. It's basically a kit that moves the recoil assembly from the stock tot he magazine tube, under the handguard.

A company called Elite Tactical Advantage is supposed to start (or already be) making them again. But I haven't really researched the details on that.

On the other hand, if you just want a PGO semi-auto. Stoeger's and some of CZ's shotguns have the recoil system in the fore-end so you can remove the stock.

You could put a pistol grip on any of the new A400 berettas as they have the action spring around the magazine tube and there is no action spring in the buttstock.
Pistol grips are not my cup o' tea but if you like them more power to ya.

Thanks Nickel Plated.

Edit: Master Blaster, thanks for the info. I'm looking into it for a friend. I have a folding stock on my Saiga 12 and that does it for me. :)
