Hi everyone,
I was out antelope hunting this weekend, and due the heat, I decided to go on the safe side and carry a sidearm for any slithering creatures, (IE: rattlesnakes). After paying $18 just for 10 shot shells for my 45, I was wondering if there is a way to reload these for semi auto pistols using conventional equipment? I know that you can load them for revolvers, but the semi auto shells appear more intricate.

thanks for the info

Yes you can buy the capsules and load them with regular dies. If you want to get serious with it though you can buy special case forming and trim dies from rcbs and make them for your .45 acp from .308 winchester brass and these will actually feed from the magazine round after round without jamming.

Speer doesn't sell shot capsules for reloading auto-pistol calibers.
All they sell is .38, .44 & .45 caps for revolvers.

You can make pistol caliber shells from rifle cases with case forming dies, or a lathe.
But how many snakes are you gonna shoot in a year?
Is it really worth the trouble to load your own when Speer sells them all ready to shoot?

I made these on a lathe for .380 ACP out of .223 brass.

Around the house, I kill rattlers on sight, non-venomous, never. When I'm hunting, I just leave them alone as they're easy to avoid. Besides, why risk ruining a hunt, as in alerting game with a gunshot, when you could just walk around it?

You can make 45 ACP shotshells from Speer's 45 caliber shot capsules. The shot capsules have to be seated deep enough to chamber the shotshell round. You may have to chamber it by hand since it may not feed from your magazine...you will have to try it. Lastly these shot cartridges will not cycle your action or lock back your slide. Each round must be cycled individually. I've loaded them and they do work in my 45 ACP, but are almost 100% more effective in a revolver.
