I bought a Winchester 190 that had a large patch of rust on the barrel. I thought it was just surface rust, so I hit it with some blue/rust remover and re-blued with Oxpho Blue. Unfortunately, it is a lot worse than I thought, and the metal is really pitted. This is a very nice rifle otherwise; what should I do to fix this?

Thank you for your help

You have few options now.

The pitting is too deep to draw file out and re-polish & blue.

And you still have active rust in the bottoms of the pitting that you need to get out ASAP to prevent it from doing further damage.

Wire wheel brush to get all traces of rust out.

The fill the pits with Bondo or Duracoat filler and shake & Duracoat it.
