Saturday I bought a Glock 17 that has been used as a range rental gun.

I shot it at the range before I took it home. No functioning issues, of course.

I shot a few groups at 25 yards to check the accuracy.

The gun is out-of-the-box stock, the ammo is $4 a box Blazer aluminum.

Seems like it's shooting ok... ;)

John, that is about what my brand new 17 does with Blazer aluminum at 25 yards. With UMC bulk pack 115 fmj it goes down to under an inch CTC easily. Absolutely amazing that a $450 gun and the cheapest ammo I could find will shoot like that but it will.

I put a set of Ameriglo target adjustable sights on mine, fantastic sight picture. I can't hold the paper let alone shoot a group on the target you shot with the stock sights. I won't even shoot a new Glock with the factory sights anymore, we have a 2 day waiting period here and that is just enough time to order some decent steel sights.....

HSMITH,

Actually, I agree about the sights. I'll put a steel front sight on it as soon as I get a chance. The stock front sight is too wide for my taste.

I've got a bunch of UMC but didn't have any at the range as it usually won't match the Blazer in most of my pistols. Just goes to show you that every pistol has different like & dislikes when it comes to ammo. I'll have to give it a try.

On the other hand, around 2-3" at 25 yards seems to be about my limit these days--I'm not sure if there's any ammo that's going to make much difference! ;)

You shoot under 4MOA off hand?

I've only shot 4MOA or better once with a centerfire pistol--that was with a Desert Eagle .44Mag. Good trigger, good sights, good ammo and a big heavy pistol with a long sight radius. Sure wish I had kept the target...

I've also managed it with a Ruger Mk II target for all the same reasons listed above. I do have that target, it came out to .5" at 15 yards for 5 shots.

I agree that it certainly isn't easy, but it's not outside of the realm of possibility.

Right now, I can shoot about 10.5 MOA pretty much on command with the right gun and ammo--if I'm not rushed. Back when I was shooting a lot more (i.e. single  ), I could get down around 6 MOA without a terrible amount of trouble.

I would think someone who is really serious about bullseye should be able to get down around 4 MOA for 5 shot groups on something approaching a fairly regular basis.

BTW, I'm talking about shooting free-standing with a 2 hand hold, no rest.
